Starting the first round of the SEA V.League men's volleyball tournament with a 0-3 "blank defeat" to the host team Philippines, the Vietnamese volleyball team made an impressive comeback. After a 3-0 victory over the reigning SEA Games runner-up Cambodia in the second round, tonight (July 11), coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team created a big shock when they defeated the reigning SEA Games and SEA V.League champions Thailand with a score of 3-1.

On a day of high performance, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, Phan Quoc Du, Truong The Khai, Tran Duy Tuyen, Dinh Van Duy forced the "king" of Southeast Asian volleyball to accept defeat. Even if they had taken advantage of the lead and the opportunities they had in game 1, the Vietnamese volleyball team would have won 3-0 against an opponent they had lost to in both encounters at the SEA V.League last year.

At the end of today's competition day (July 11), the Vietnamese volleyball team had the same 2 wins and 1 loss as the Thai team. Due to a better win/loss difference than the Vietnamese team, the Thai team took the lead while the Vietnamese team ranked second. The race for the championship title of the first round of the SEA V.League volleyball tournament promises to be even more exciting and tense because the 2 competitors, the Indonesian and Philippine teams, have 1 win and 1 loss but have played 1 less match than the Vietnamese and Thai teams.

The Vietnamese team has the most unfavorable schedule in the first round of the SEA V.League when they have to play 4 consecutive matches in 4 days while the remaining teams have 1 day off. Having just used all their strength to compete with the Thai team, at 2pm tomorrow, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan and his teammates will have to compete in the final round, facing the Indonesian team. The challenge is not small, but coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team are still determined to win to compete for the championship title.

SEA V.League Stage 1 standings after the competition day 11.7:

Class Team Battle Difference Point
1 Thailand 3 7/4 6
2 Vietnam 3 6/4 6
3 Indonesia 2 4/3 3
4 Philippines 2 3/3 3
5 Cambodia 2 0/6 0
