After the defeat of coach Troussier and his team, many Southeast Asian newspapers were quite surprised.
"U22 Vietnam unexpectedly lost to U22 Indonesia despite having more players," wrote Makan Bola (Malaysia).
Thai press expressed regret after the defeat of the red team in the semi-finals of SEA Games 32.
“U22 Vietnam fell in the semi-finals due to a late goal from Indonesia,” commented the Daily News.
“Former SEA Games champion shed tears. U22 Indonesia reached the final of the tournament despite playing with only 10 men,” Siam Sport expressed.
Another newspaper from the land of golden pagodas, Matichon, ran the headline: “Goodbye to the former champion. U22 Vietnam suffered a painful defeat due to U22 Indonesia’s goal in extra time.”
In this match, U22 Vietnam had the advantage of playing with one more player from the 59th minute when Pratama Arhan was disqualified.
The red team was even "gifted" a goal by their opponents near the end of the match after Amiruddin Arrizqi set fire to the goal.
However, all the efforts of Khuat Van Khang and his teammates went down the drain after Taufany's goal in the 6th minute of extra time.
Talking about the home team's victory, Bola newspaper praised: "A dramatic victory even though we only had 10 men left. U22 Indonesia won a ticket to the final."
Meanwhile, CNN Indonesia reported: "Taufany's late goal brought U22 Indonesia into the final."
According to the schedule, the men's football final of the 32nd SEA Games between U22 Indonesia and U22 Thailand will take place on May 16. On the same day is the bronze medal match between U22 Vietnam and U22 Myanmar.
