The Vietnamese team suffered a 0-4 defeat to Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match at Bukit Jalil Stadium on June 10. This defeat puts coach Kim Sang Sik's team at great risk of not being able to participate in the 2027 Asian Cup.

Commenting on the situation of the Vietnamese team, the Korean press still has faith in coach Kim Sang Sik. Daum newspaper commented: “The Vietnamese team of coach Kim Sang Sik just suffered a shocking defeat against Malaysia. The reason for the resounding victory of the “Tigers” is the appearance of many naturalized players.
Nine out of the 11 Malaysian players on the field in this match were of European and South American origin. The Vietnamese team drew 0-0 with their opponents in the first half, before collapsing after conceding 4 goals in the second half.
Following the rise of Indonesia, Malaysia is also following the same path. Now, many teams are willing to massively recruit naturalized players to rise up. This could affect Asian football.
Coach Kim Sang Sik apologized to the fans and took full responsibility for this defeat. He affirmed that the whole team will stand up strong and correct their mistakes.
The Vietnamese team has no choice but to win all remaining matches, including the return match against Malaysia on March 31 next year. Coach Kim Sang Sik still deserves to be trusted for the team's next journey."

News1 admitted: “Vietnam’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup are fading after a crushing 0-4 defeat to Malaysia. If they want to qualify for the Asian Cup, the Golden Dragons need to win by at least four goals against their opponents in the rematch on March 31.”
News Nate admitted that this was the most shocking defeat of the Vietnamese team against Malaysia in history. Notably, in the last meeting in 2022, the "Golden Star Warriors" under the leadership of coach Park Hang Seo won easily with a score of 3-0.
After the loss to Malaysia, Coach Kim Sang Sik will take on a new task when leading the Vietnam U23 team to participate in the U23 Asian Cup in July and the U23 Asian Cup qualifiers in September. This is the first time the Korean strategist has worked directly with the U23 team since taking office in May last year.
