According to information from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), by the end of July 2025, Vietnam had 861,559 international trademark registration applications originating from Vietnam through the Madrid System ( International Trademark Registration System managed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) . In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, there were 7,761 applications, with the scope of registration increasingly expanding.
In Hai Phong , the city has 124 agricultural products granted protection certificates by the Department of Intellectual Property (2 geographical indications, 3 certification marks, 119 collective marks). Some famous products such as Hoang Giang green bean cake, Thanh Ha lychee, Chu Dau pottery, My Dong casting mechanics... have been protected abroad.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology Nguyen Cao Thang emphasized: In the context of a competitive global economy , when each export product not only has commercial value but also represents the prestige and national brand, the story of intellectual property becomes more urgent than ever. Therefore, decoding complex legal regulations in major markets, sharing valuable experiences of success and failure, and most importantly, connecting businesses with state support programs and professional consulting organizations to protect and defend intellectual property rights for export products is very necessary.
At the workshop, delegates also shared practical experiences in developing intellectual property, promoting the role of farmer members in protecting Vietnamese agricultural product brands in the international market; the role of customs authorities in controlling, detecting and handling imported and exported goods that infringe intellectual property rights at border gates; registration practices and some recommendations to improve the effectiveness of registration of protection of Vietnamese trademarks and geographical indications in some key foreign markets, issues that need attention for intellectual property owners...
In addition, delegates focused on discussing and analyzing difficulties and obstacles in registering, managing and developing intellectual property rights for key products; providing guidance on procedures and processes for registering trademarks and geographical indications in key markets such as China, the US, Japan and Europe; introducing and guiding the use of the Madrid international trademark registration system; and introducing support programs to improve the effectiveness of management and development of intellectual property rights associated with trade promotion.
The workshop not only provides information, but is also a place to create solutions and build trust so that businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities can better understand legal regulations, grasp the registration process, take advantage of support programs, and proactively protect their brands and product values in the global market./.
