Vietnam and Malaysia teams must fight
According to CNN Indonesia , the Vietnamese and Malaysian teams do not want to miss the opportunity to participate in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup, while the Indonesian team is present and competing in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.

"This will be a fierce battle," CNN Indonesia said. In Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, Vietnam is currently leading the group after a 5-0 win over Laos, while Malaysia is in second place with 3 points after a 2-0 win over Nepal.
"The upcoming match between the two teams on June 10 will be decisive for the chance of which team will win the only ticket in the group to the 2027 Asian Cup Finals. The Vietnamese and Malaysian teams still have a return match on March 31, 2026 when this qualifying round ends. But this will be the most crucial match," CNN Indonesia emphasized.
"The competition for the remaining 6 spots in the 2027 Asian Cup finals is quite fierce, because the AFC stipulates that only the top team in the third qualifying round will qualify. In addition to the Vietnamese and Malaysian teams competing for the only spot in Group F, other teams in Southeast Asia are also competing for a spot in the 2027 Asian Cup, including Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Myanmar," CNN Indonesia added.
At the same time as Southeast Asian teams enter the second round of matches in the 3rd qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup next June, the Indonesian team also has 2 key matches in Group C of the 3rd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia to decide the opportunity to compete for the 2nd ticket directly to the finals, or to keep the 4th position to enter the 4th qualifying round.
Accordingly, the archipelago team will host the Chinese team at home on June 5, then they will travel to Suita City to meet Japan on June 10, the team that has already won a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
PSSI President decides where to hold the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament

"For the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament venue, we decided to choose Sidoarjo because it has the newly renovated and recently inaugurated Gelora Delta Stadium. Choosing Sidoarjo is also to prove that hosting major regional football tournaments can take place in many places in Indonesia, not just concentrated in one location," PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasized.
The 19,400-seat Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo, East Java, is also no stranger to international sporting events, as it has been used many times as a venue for the Indonesian national team's matches, including at the Southeast Asian level, CNN Indonesia reported.
The 5th Southeast Asian U.23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 31. The Vietnam U.23 team is currently the team with the most championships, with 2 championships in 2022 and 2023. The Thai team won once in 2005, while the Indonesian U.23 team won in 2019 and was runner-up in 2023 (losing to the Vietnamese team after a penalty shootout).
