Jannik Sinner equalled his personal best at Roland Garros on Sunday night, ending Alexander Bublik's impressive run to become the first Italian in history to reach six Grand Slam semi-finals.
The Italian showed his superiority from the start on Court Philippe Chatrier, Sinner showed good ball feel with precise touches to neutralize Bublik's power, sealing a convincing 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 victory in just 1 hour and 48 minutes. The world number one extended his winning streak to 19 consecutive matches at major tournaments, following on from his recent Grand Slam success.

"We've played a few times before, so I know a little bit about what to expect. But in a different way, when you play against Bubik, you never know what's going to happen. He deserves to be in the quarterfinals, he's beaten some very strong opponents. I tried to focus from my side of the court and play as solid as possible because he can have some ups and downs. I tried to serve well in the important moments, and I did that," Sinner said after the match.
Sinner, chasing his first Roland Garros title, will face Novak Djokovic. The 23-year-old currently has a 4-4 head-to-head record with Djokovic, but will be confident having won their last three meetings.
Sinner, who is 17-1 this season, made history with compatriot Lorenzo Musetti when they both reached the semifinals at Roland Garros. It was the first time in the Open Era that two Italian men had reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam. Nicola Pietrangeli and Orlando Sirola had previously achieved the same feat in Paris in 1960.
"Against players like this, you have to be consistent because if you make a lot of mistakes, you pay for it. It's the type of match where, if we both serve very well, there aren't many good returns. I tried to create a rhythm with my returns. I'm very happy and pleased with how I got to the semi-finals. Semi-finals at a Grand Slam are very special, so I was looking forward to it," Sinner said of his win over Bublik.

Sinner began his 52nd consecutive week as No. 1 in the ATP rankings, having lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals last year in the French capital but has made great strides since. The Italian won five titles in the second half of last season, including the US Open and the ATP Finals. He started the year by winning the Australian Open and then reached the final at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome. Remarkably, he has yet to drop a set in the two weeks in the French capital.
For Bublik, this is his first appearance in the quarter-finals at a major tournament, following an excellent performance in defeating fifth seed Jack Draper in the quarter-finals, before which he defeated Top 10 star Alex de Minaur in the second round. In his fifth meeting with Sinner, the 27-year-old showed signs of nervousness in the first set and played passively, with only 6 winners and 8 unforced errors, allowing the Italian to quickly take control.
However, the Kazakh improved significantly in the second set to cause Sinner problems. Bublik used his drop shot effectively to pull the Italian out of position and open up space on the court. Sinner held his own though, withstanding pressure from deep behind the baseline before securing the crucial break of the set in the 11th game to create a comfortable lead.
Sinner continued his dominant form in the third set, hitting powerful and accurate shots to take complete control of the serve, taking the pair's head-to-head series to 4-1. Despite the defeat, Bublik will make a 19-spot jump in the ATP rankings, rising to No. 43 thanks to his performance in Paris.
