VinMotion Chairman: “Made in Vietnam” robots will reach the world.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Just 5 months after its establishment, VinMotion already has 5 versions of humanoid robots. All were developed by a team of domestic engineers who mastered the entire process from A to Z.

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí06/06/2025

Recently, a video allegedly showing a robot from Vingroup Corporation appeared on social media. The video shows the robot possessing human-like movement capabilities, walking on two legs and waving hello.

Notably, the logo of Vingroup Corporation, along with the words VinMotion, a technology company within the Vingroup ecosystem, is prominently displayed on the robot's chest, leading many to believe that this is a product researched and tested in Vietnam.

As soon as the video appeared, it received a high level of attention and was shared widely on social media.

Reporters had a conversation with VinMotion Chairman Nguyen Trung Quan to better understand the company that is currently generating the most curiosity in Vietnam.

From a "super-fast" start to a self-sufficient technology platform.

Images of a humanoid robot bearing the brand name Motion have recently gone viral on social media, even though the company was founded less than half a year ago. Is this really a product of VinMotion, or just a product of AI, sir?

- Yes, that's exactly our product. This humanoid robot is still in the testing phase and is version number 5.

This video shows the Motion robot from Vingroup Corporation mimicking a human.

Thus, VinMotion has managed to test four versions in just a few months since its establishment. To achieve such incredible speed, VinMotion must have imported technology or collaborated with foreign partners.

- We would like to confirm that this humanoid robot is 100% "Made in Vietnam," the result of the design, manufacturing, and development process, from hardware to software, by the VinMotion engineering team. Despite being established only a few months ago, we have continuously developed and improved five versions. The entire process, from concept to finished product, is carried out by the VinMotion team.

Could you share which processes and technologies VinMotion has mastered to create 100% "Make in Vietnam" robots?

- We have mastered almost all processes from hardware design, electrical and electronic engineering, software, and controllers for the robot. However, while proud of this beginning, we don't consider this a perfect product.

There are still many things we need to refine and upgrade to achieve a satisfactory product. Currently, we are also simultaneously developing R&D for models with different design principles to further improve the product.

How can a company that's only a few months old master 100% of the R&D (research and development) process for a high-tech product like a humanoid robot, even having five versions as you mentioned? What enabled your company to achieve this?

- It's true that the company is young (VinMotion was founded in January), but our team consists of highly experienced robotics professionals from Vietnam and abroad.

We also have the contributions of world- leading experts such as Mr. Le Minh, hardware director - who has 10 years of experience at leading global robotics corporations such as GE HealthCare Robotics and Aldebaran Robotics; owner of the product of the NAO project - the iconic humanoid robot with more than 20,000 units deployed in over 70 countries.

I myself was awarded the best doctoral dissertation in the program at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) - a world-leading university in robotics, contributing to the development of groundbreaking projects such as the MIT Cheetah robot.

Therefore, the results achieved so far are the sweet fruit of years of accumulated experience from VinMotion's leadership team and leading experts. In particular, VinMotion would hardly have been able to develop its current products without the strong and comprehensive support from Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong and the entire Vingroup ecosystem.

A golden opportunity to bring Vietnamese intelligence and technology to the world stage.

What is special about the company's first robot models, and what tasks can they be used for, sir?

Currently, the Motion robot is only in the stage of performing some basic functions such as walking, object recognition, and simple communication… Although still modest, this is the first step in perfecting a product integrating both hardware and software that is "Made in Vietnam".

Mr. Nguyen Trung Quan, Chairman of VinMotion

In the long term, we focus on developing general-purpose humanoid robots, meaning versatile, highly adaptable humanoid robots capable of performing many tasks to replace humans in various industries.

Specifically, what applications can we expect from these next products, sir?

- We are improving our robots to be more flexible, durable, and capable of performing more useful tasks. Our philosophy is not to create a product "for show," but to develop products that are truly useful and feasible in daily life.

Currently, we are focusing our market research on three main areas. First, the service and entertainment sector, including receptionists, tour guides, and customer service in hotels and showrooms. Second, supporting industries, with robots replacing humans in many tasks in manufacturing or warehousing environments. Third, the group of robots that assist with household chores, from cleaning and tidying to interacting, providing companionship, and even caring for young children or the elderly.

Besides its current robot model, does VinMotion have plans to develop any other technologies or products that are different from existing robot models around the world?

- We are working in parallel on a special prototype called SuperMotion - a line of robots with superior physical mobility compared to current humanoid models. The goal is to serve in harsher environments such as heavy industrial plants.

I cannot disclose more details about this special product at the moment as it is still under development. However, we hope to announce it by the end of this year.

What is VinMotion's vision for the humanoid robotics industry in Vietnam and globally, sir?

- We have set a very clear vision: VinMotion aims to become the world's leading company in multi-functional humanoid robots - not only in technology but also as a symbol of Vietnamese creativity, resilience, and intelligence on the global technology map.

Is it too ambitious for a very young company, originating from Vietnam, to aim to become the world's leading humanoid robot manufacturer, sir?

- I think if Vietnamese people don't dream big dreams, we will always lag behind. The world is undergoing a very rapid transformation in the field of robotics, and if we don't start now, we will miss a historic opportunity.

Of course, reaching our goal isn't something that happens overnight, but we have faith, serious investment, a good team, and a clear strategy. We don't set goals just to motivate ourselves, but to act step by step, with a proactive yet determined spirit.

Mastering this core technology will create momentum for Vingroup as a whole, making it much easier for them to master advanced technologies in many high-tech fields in the future.

So, in your opinion, what opportunities does Vietnam have in the fiercely competitive global humanoid robot market, and how can VinMotion contribute to Vietnam?

- I believe this is the golden opportunity for Vietnam to make its mark on the global technology map. The US is still the leading country in research, but the production and deployment costs there are very high. China, while having the advantage of a supply chain, faces a "trust barrier" - especially from the US and Europe.

In this context, Vietnam is emerging as a new technology manufacturing hub: reasonable costs, highly skilled engineers, and a neutral and reliable position internationally. This is our opportunity to enter this race.

At the same time, we collaborate closely with international scientists, update with the latest technologies, and build a highly applicable ecosystem of intelligent robots.

In particular, with strong financial backing and a comprehensive technology ecosystem from Vingroup, VinMotion has all the necessary conditions to break through and realize its vision: to bring Vietnamese intelligence and technology to the world stage, becoming a leading global humanoid robotics company.

Thank you for taking the time for this conversation!
