"This is ignorant propaganda," Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on March 9, commenting on US media reports blaming the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion on a "pro-Ukrainian group."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the information that a "pro-Ukrainian group" carried out the Nord Stream explosion was unbelievable, emphasizing that "this is a difficult task that can only be carried out by special agencies."

Dmitry Peskov said Russia is determined to conduct a transparent investigation into the terrorist attack that blew up the Nord Stream pipeline.

Earlier, the New York Times on March 7 quoted US officials as saying that they had new intelligence about the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Europe running under the Baltic Sea. Accordingly, a pro-Ukrainian extremist group was behind the attack. However, the US side did not find any connection between the Kiev government and the sabotage.

The New York Times also quoted US officials as saying there was no evidence that President Volodymyr Zelensky or top aides to the Ukrainian leader were involved in the sabotage attack on the Nord Stream pipeline.

On March 3, Reuters reported that Russia will seal the damaged Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea region because Moscow has no immediate plans to repair or reactivate the pipelines.

Last September, Sweden and Denmark discovered four leaks in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines that carry gas from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. Of the four leaks, two were located in Sweden's exclusive economic zone and two were in Denmark's.

Russian, US and EU authorities say the leaks may be the result of a targeted attack. The West and Russia have traded accusations over the Nord Stream pipeline leak.

Sweden, Denmark and Germany have opened separate investigations to collect information and documents about the incident at the Nord Stream pipeline.
