French newspaper: 'Quang Hai only helps Pau FC with commerce'

French media was not surprised when Nguyen Quang Hai left Pau FC after only one season, believing that his commercial contributions were more than his professional ones.

In the article "Quang Hai and Pau: The story is over" on La Republique des Pyrenees , author VM said that Quang Hai brought great expectations but failed to meet them. "In fact, things have been difficult for the Vietnamese midfielder. Quang Hai's last match for Pau FC was in February 2023, and he has also disappeared from the Pau squad since April 1," the article said.

Le Figaro newspaper quoted club President Bernard Laporte Fray as saying that the Quang Hai deal can still be considered a positive thing for Pau FC, as it helps the team achieve surprising results in terms of coverage or media.

French newspaper Sud Ouest also shares the same opinion, when author Georges Lannessans wrote: "Quang Hai has helped Pau develop, from 15,000 followers on the team's Facebook account to 340,000. This deal also helped Pau sign contracts with several partners, especially the team's official shirt sponsor this season."

Quang Hai joined Pau at the end of June 2022, as a free agent after his contract with Hanoi FC expired. The 1.68 m tall midfielder was given a chance in the early rounds, starting two of the first three matches. But since then, he has gradually lost his place in the team and is mainly a substitute, rarely playing. In the 2022-2023 season, Quang Hai played 12 matches in Ligue 2, scoring a goal to seal a 2-2 draw against Rodez on October 8, 2022. In addition, he played one match in the French Cup, and seven matches for Pau B in the French fifth division.

Although he still has one year left on his contract with Pau FC, Quang Hai has asked to leave in the summer of 2023 to return to Vietnam to play for a V-League team. The 26-year-old midfielder will return home today, June 5, to join the Vietnam national team.

Explaining why Quang Hai could not meet the professional requirements at Pau FC, President Laporte added: "Quang Hai finds it difficult to accept this reality, even though he has undeniable qualities. But that shows how much Ligue 2 demands from a player, as they need strength and determination. Quang Hai's physique is also not a favorable factor for him."
