Recently, a tourist with the nickname Binh Nguyen shared an article about his trip to Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa), expressing his dissatisfaction. This tourist said that he likes to explore, learn and also praises tourist destinations because he thinks each locality has its own unique features. But this time when he came to Nha Trang, he felt "quite bad".

"The artifacts are poor beyond imagination"
Among the not-so-good experiences, this tourist said that when visiting Khanh Hoa Museum, he found the exhibits too poor and the work unprofessional. "Khanh Hoa is the land of agarwood, has Dien Khanh ancient citadel, Nha Trang beach with beautiful islands, Cam Ranh bay, fishing, bird's nest making, mountainous areas with many diverse ethnic groups... That made me look forward to enjoying the artifacts, rich stories, rich in historical and cultural values of this land. In return, it was a total disappointment", tourist Binh Nguyen shared.

He said that although he had waited for the museum to open to visit, when he arrived the door was still locked. Feeling strange, he went to the back and saw some people sitting there, and was instructed to come back in half an hour. When he disagreed with the way things were done, one of them called the museum caretaker to open the door.
Once inside, this tourist was even more disappointed because the museum only had 2 rooms and the exhibits were very sketchy. "Basically, the exhibits were poor beyond imagination, the poorest of all the museums I've visited, poorer than even private museums. The museum lady said there were still exhibits on the 2nd floor, but there wasn't enough space so the collection changed every now and then. But anyway, it was still poor beyond imagination. For comparison, about 200 meters from Khanh Hoa Museum is the Yersin Museum in the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang with much better exhibits, documents, and displays," this tourist said.
Museum land for rent for coffee shop
Khanh Hoa Museum is located on Tran Phu Street, more than 2000 m2 wide, facing the sea, has the most prime location in Nha Trang City. Many tourists pass by here but almost no one visits, the museum's activities are strangely deserted.
Even more paradoxically, the most crowded place at this museum is... the coffee shop located on the museum grounds, right at the frontage of Tran Phu and Yersin streets, which has been rented for business for many years.
Thanh Nien reporters went to Khanh Hoa Museum to find out the truth. As the above tourist reported, although it was past 9:20 (October 24), the museum's doors were still closed, and there was not a soul around the campus. Next to it was a coffee shop encroaching on the museum's campus.

By the morning of October 25, the museum was open but there were almost no visitors. Inside the museum, there were two staff members sitting right at the entrance in the middle. According to the reporter's observation, on the left side was a room of about 100 square meters displaying a number of very simple and meager artifacts, including: a lithophone set, bronze drum, ma la musical instrument, Ghi-nang drum and some paintings about the culture of ethnic groups in Khanh Hoa province. On the right side was another display area of similar size; here were displayed a number of musical instruments, costumes, jewelry and spiritual objects of ethnic minorities.
An ethnic minority musical instrument is displayed inside the museum.
With the exhibits as above, if visitors visit Khanh Hoa Museum, it will only take about 10-15 minutes to see everything. The staff on duty said that there are no exhibits on the second floor.
What did the Director of Khanh Hoa Museum say?
Speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum, said he had received information from tourists on social networks and felt "very sad".
Mr. Phong explained that the museum was closed because the staff was traveling to organize annual thematic exhibitions. "Because the museum space is too small, we mainly focus on traveling exhibitions," Mr. Phong said.

Mr. Phong said that Phu Khanh Provincial Museum, now Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum, was established in 1979. This is a French-style house, built in the early 20th century, with one floor and two separate entrances inside. The entire museum area is about 2,000 square meters, but the exhibition area in the building is very narrow, consisting of only 2 rooms with an area of about 200 square meters, so only a small number of the more than 18,000 artifacts are open for display. The upper floor is mainly a warehouse for storing artifacts.
"This is an old French office building, with bedrooms and offices, so the rooms are very small and not functional enough to become a museum. We try to introduce typical cultural and people of Khanh Hoa to visitors, but we cannot bring out all the artifacts. Some valuable artifacts cannot be displayed because security conditions are not guaranteed," said Mr. Phong.

The Director of Khanh Hoa Museum also said that the province is currently promoting the construction of a new, larger and more impressive museum. According to the plan, the new museum will be located in Ocean Square, the old Nha Trang airport area.
"I hope this will be implemented quickly, because when the museum opens to visitors now, we know in advance that they will criticize, but we still have to grit our teeth and accept it because the space is only like that. A big province with a museum like that..., many people say it's very sad," said Mr. Phong.
