DTO - Tram Chim National Park was recognized as the world 's 2000th Ramsar site and Vietnam's 4th Ramsar site in 2012. Since then, the locality has implemented many conservation solutions associated with stable livelihood development for people in the buffer zone, thereby helping to make biodiversity conservation more effective.
Tram Chim National Park is a large wetland area located in the communes of Tan Cong Sinh, Phu Duc, Phu Tho , Phu Thanh A, Phu Thanh B, Phu Hiep and Tram Chim town (Tam Nong district) with a total natural area of 7,313 hectares. The park was recognized as a National Park by the Government on December 29, 1998.
Tram Chim National Park has a rich vegetation with more than 130 species of higher plants, with 6 typical community types: lotus community, wild rice, water mimosa, moldy mouth, reed grass and cajuput forest community. The water bird system has 231 species, belonging to 25 genera, 49 families. Of which, 88% are found in the dry season, accounting for ¼ of the total number of bird species found in Vietnam; there are many rare bird species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and IUCN such as: coc de, giang sen, gia vong... and especially the red-headed crane which is being protected by the world. Aquaculture has 150 species of freshwater fish, fish species listed in the Vietnam Red Book such as: anchovy, basket-shaped fish, duong fish, giant catfish; 191 species of plants, diverse and rich aquatic ecosystem with nearly 180 species of algae, 110 species of floating plants, 26 species of benthic plants, nearly 350 species of phytoplankton, 34 species of amphibians and reptiles...
Tourists experience at Tram Chim National Park
Identifying that illegal encroachment and hunting of animals in the National Park is due to people in difficult circumstances, in addition to implementing propaganda activities, mobilizing the buffer zone community to comply with regulations and commit to protecting the National Park... the locality also has mechanisms to support people in the buffer zone to develop their economy . Ms. Nguyen Thi Deo's family has been in difficulty for many years in the buffer zone commune of Tan Cong Sinh, Tam Nong district. More than 10 years ago, she had access to a loan from the "Project on transferring science and technology and developing household economy" for people in the buffer zone communes implemented by the district Women's Union. With 15 million VND, she invested in beekeeping. Thanks to her diligence and hard work, Ms. Deo's family has overcome difficulties. Currently, she has expanded the scale of production and created jobs for nearly 10 local workers with stable income. In addition to economic development, Ms. Deo is the Head of the Women's Group of Ca Dam hamlet, Tan Cong Sinh commune, participating in supporting and mobilizing children in the area to take care of and protect the forest.
In addition to the project to support women in the buffer zone to borrow capital, the locality also implemented eco-tourism models in the Park with the core force being households and children in the buffer zones participating. Thanks to that, the number of households violating the law has decreased significantly, especially through this team, the approach and propaganda to people and tourists about forest protection awareness has been carried out more effectively...
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Nam - Chairman of Tam Nong District People's Committee, the conservation of flora and fauna in Tram Chim National Park has always been of interest to the province and district. In particular, to harmonize the task of nature conservation with supporting people to develop sustainable livelihoods, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 1037/QD-UBND.HC dated October 5, 2015 approving the buffer zone report of Tram Chim National Park and directing provincial departments, branches, and Tam Nong District People's Committee to coordinate in establishing a project to support livelihoods for people in the buffer zone, in order to limit people from illegally entering the Park to hunt and capture, affecting the habitat of birds, storks, especially red-crowned cranes. The province is currently implementing the Red-crowned Crane Conservation and Development Project in Tram Chim National Park for the period 2022 - 2032. The district is reviewing the production status of the people, establishing a project to develop livelihoods in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park, supporting people to feel secure in production, business, and trading to improve their lives, limit encroachment into the Park, contribute to environmental protection, and protect animal and plant species in the Park and buffer zone...
