The three-gong set is a unique traditional art form of the Hrê people, closely associated with their spiritual life and community rituals. Each set consists of three gongs, often used during festivals, harvest celebrations, and village prosperity celebrations, contributing to community connection and preserving the ethnic cultural identity.
In response to the impact of modern life, the preservation of the traditional gongs in Ba Vi commune is a priority for both the local government and residents. The local authorities have invited skilled gong artisans to teach the younger generation, revive traditional pieces, and improve performance techniques, harmoniously combining gong music and dance to create new appeal.
To date, Ba Vi commune has established four three-gong ensembles with over 60 artisans and gong enthusiasts participating in regular activities and performances. The local government has also reviewed the workforce knowledgeable in three-gong playing, invested in purchasing musical instruments, and created conditions for the ensembles to both practice and serve cultural activities at the grassroots level.
In the program for preserving and promoting cultural values associated with tourism development, Quang Ngai province continues to allocate resources to support mountainous localities. Many traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities are gradually being restored and spread throughout community life.
The preservation and development of the three-gong tradition not only contributes to safeguarding the national intangible cultural heritage but also creates momentum for community cultural development, gradually spreading the traditional cultural values of the Hrê people sustainably in contemporary life.
