Marc-Andre ter Stegen is no longer Barcelona captain, after refusing to allow medical records relating to his back injury and surgery to be sent to La Liga's Medical Committee.
Ter Stegen prevented Barca from using 80% of his salary to sign new players - specifically goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

Faced with this reaction, Barca said they suffered both economic and sporting losses, so they decided to open an investigation into Ter Stegen.
On Thursday, Barca made an official announcement: Ter Stegen was temporarily stripped of the captaincy; Ronald Araujo will take on this role in the near future.
On Thursday morning, Barca returned to training after returning from their tour of Asia, preparing for the Joan Gamper Cup friendly against Como.
As tensions escalated, Ter Stegen remained at the training centre and left after an hour and a half.
The Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) expressed its support for Ter Stegen, saying his decision was legal and protected by law.
For its part, La Liga also affirmed that it would not accept any reports without Ter Stegen's official consent , out of respect for personal privacy.
AFE asserted that the disciplinary decision made by Barca has no legal basis, because the law on personal data protection has a higher effect than any internal regulations of the club .
Therefore, as a player, Ter Stegen is under no obligation to share his medical information with third parties . If he does not want to, he has the right to refuse.

Ter Stegen's story also attracted the attention of coach Julian Nagelsmann and the German Football Federation ( DFB ).
Andreas Rettig , the DFB 's sporting director, publicly stood by the goalkeeper : "I hope that everyone who works with Ter Stegen will remember the contributions and importance he has shown, not only for Germany but also for Barcelona."
Despite internal discipline, Ter Stegen has still firmly refused to allow Barca to send his medical report to La Liga. He believes that the recovery process will take 3 months, or even less, and not over 4 months as announced by the club.
Regarding the registration, the 33-year-old goalkeeper believes that it is not his problem but the club must solve it themselves.
Less than 10 days before the opening match of La Liga 2025/26 against Mallorca (August 16), Barca are in a mess and only have goalkeeper Inaki Pena. Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny are not yet registered.
If Ter Stegen makes a big deal out of it, with AFE backing him up in every way, Barca's already chaotic situation will become even more chaotic.
