Barcelona make surprise decision to sign Rashford

Barcelona are rushing to sign striker Marcus Rashford in time for their La Liga opener against Real Mallorca on August 17.

According to Athletic , to resolve this situation, Barcelona's board of directors held an emergency meeting on August 13. Key members proposed using personal funds to provide a bank guarantee worth 7 million euros. This figure is enough to help Rashford register to play in Barcelona's La Liga squad next season.

This is not the first time Barcelona has made this move. The Catalan club did the same in June 2023 to help ease the club's financial crisis.

In addition to Rashford, Wojciech Szczesny and Gerard Martin are also in the process of not being registered ahead of the new season. Currently, only new signing Joan Garcia has a place to play, as he will replace injured goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

The Camp Nou outfit need to resolve the situation before the transfer window closes, with affected players facing the possibility of being sidelined until at least January 2026 if they are not registered.

However, Barcelona officials remain optimistic that the situation will be resolved soon. The team hopes to have a large revenue stream in the near future.

In December 2024, Barcelona sold future income rights from VIP boxes at Camp Nou for €100m, but La Liga cannot count this against the salary cap until it has approval from its auditors.
