Billions from durian garden
Born in 1964 in Nam Dinh (old), in 1977, Mr. Tuyen followed his family to the South to do new economic activities. After many years of wandering from Ca Mau to Dong Nai, in 1994, he chose Bao Lam 3 commune as his place to start a business. “Back then, this place was still wild, the roads were difficult, but the land was fertile. I thought, as long as I worked hard, I would live well,” he recalled.
With his savings, he bought more than 1.6 hectares of land to grow coffee and mulberry to raise silkworms. The first years were difficult, but he and his family always tried hard, thanks to which life gradually stabilized. Not stopping there, he always struggled to find a new direction to increase income. In 2018, realizing the great potential of durian trees, he boldly converted the entire area to this type of tree. At first, due to lack of experience, his family's durian garden did not achieve the desired yield, but he did not give up. "Each crop is a lesson from reality, so I went everywhere to learn, adjusted the care method accordingly and the durian tree did not disappoint the caretaker," Mr. Tuyen shared.
He applied new techniques to his durian garden, installed an automatic irrigation system, prioritized the use of organic fertilizers and closely monitored each stage of the tree's growth. Thanks to that, more than 3.2 hectares of durian, mainly Mongthong Thai variety, of his family have high and stable yields. In 2023, Mr. Tuyen harvested 53 tons of durian, worth 3.7 billion VND. By 2024, his family's garden reached 64 tons, bringing in an income of about 4.2 billion VND. Not only enriching his family, he is also willing to share his experiences so that people can develop together, considering it a way to "live well together".
Connecting parishioners with the government
In addition to being a good businessman , Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuyen is also loved by the people for his enthusiasm, cheerfulness and dedication to the community. As Chairman of the Loc Nam Parish Council, which has nearly 5,000 parishioners, of whom about 2,000 are K'ho people, he has become a reliable "bridge" between the parish, parishioners and the government. Although busy with farming work, he still does not hesitate to do any common work, from mobilizing people to respond to new rural construction movements, protecting the environment, ensuring security and order, to connecting and calling for donations to help those in difficult circumstances, and supporting poor students to overcome difficulties. With his prestige and sincerity, his appeal always receives high consensus from the people.
In particular, in just over the past 2 years, he has stood up to connect and mobilize the construction of a charity house, given 200 gifts to students in ethnic minority areas, contributed 5 million VND to the local scholarship fund and promptly supported many other difficult circumstances. For him, "working to bring good things to everyone is my joy and happiness".
Sharing about Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuyen, Mr. Nguyen Van Mui - Secretary of Party Cell of Village 7, Bao Lam 3 Commune said: “Mr. Tuyen is a typical example in the Patriotic Emulation Movement for the period 2020 - 2025. In any movement or activity of the village or commune, he actively participates, contributing to creating an atmosphere of solidarity and mutual love. He always enthusiastically accompanies the local government in propaganda and mobilization work, helping the life of the village and hamlet to improve day by day”.
From nothing, with will and determination, Mr. Tuyen has built a spacious property for himself with a billion-dollar durian garden. But the greatest value is his heart of sharing, attachment to the community, wholeheartedly mobilizing people to unite to build a new life in the locality.
