Da Nang City police have just detained a subject who made guns and bullets and sold them to people in need.
Subject Pham Ngoc Son |
On August 18, the Investigation Security Agency of Da Nang City Police announced that it had just prosecuted and temporarily detained Pham Ngoc Son (23 years old, residing in Group 21, Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City).
According to the investigation results, in July 2023, Pham Ngoc Son discovered through the internet that many foreign websites used military weapons made from plastic through 3D printers. From there, Son searched for gun designs and ordered 3D printing services in Vietnam.
Receiving the 3D printed components, Son made a brass barrel, drilled and turned the firing pin and spring to install on the gun. When the gun was completed, Son put it up for sale.
The guns made by Son were seized by the police. |
On August 12, Son sent four guns to a customer through the delivery service at the Economy Delivery Post Office in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District.
After Son sent the goods, the Security Investigation Agency coordinated with the Post Office to inspect, discover and temporarily detain 4 guns according to regulations.
The Security Investigation Agency assessed that 3D printed guns that can fire real bullets are especially dangerous weapons, posing many potential risks if they are widely produced and used.
Therefore, the Investigation Security Agency of Da Nang City Police requested 3D printing establishments to strictly comply with the provisions of the law on printing service business, and not assist subjects in printing military weapon components.
The case is currently under investigation and handling according to the law.
