On August 3, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital (Quang Ninh province) announced that the hospital had just received a 5-year-old patient residing in Hong Thai Dong, Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province, who was hospitalized due to swallowing a magnet in a toy.
According to the family, while playing at home, the magnet from the toy accidentally fell out, the child picked it up and swallowed it. The family quickly took the child to the hospital.
At the hospital, the child was examined and an abdominal X-ray determined that there was a foreign body in the digestive tract located in the right iliac fossa. The child is currently being cared for and monitored at the hospital.
According to doctors at the hospital, some foreign objects accidentally swallowed by children can be removed through the digestive tract, but some foreign objects require surgery or endoscopy to be removed. As in the case of children, they will be closely monitored. If there are complications or the foreign object cannot be removed through the digestive tract, doctors will prescribe intervention to remove the foreign object for the child.
When swallowing foreign objects, if not detected and treated promptly, it can lead to dangerous complications such as: scratches on the intestinal and stomach mucosa, intestinal perforation, stomach perforation, bleeding and most dangerously, the risk of death.

If they accidentally swallow a foreign object, they need to quickly take the child to the hospital for examination and timely treatment. Especially after swallowing, if the child has signs such as vomiting, vomiting blood, abdominal pain, crying, pale skin, cold hands and feet, they need immediate emergency care. At the hospital, the child will be diagnosed, their condition determined and have different directions.
