Ms. Mary Elizabeth Polley also thanked the program partners for their cooperation in bringing technology applications to education in Vietnam. The US Embassy in Vietnam is honored to co-organize the program with the partners.

Train the Trainers - AI Summer Camp, initiated by STEAM for Vietnam, is one of the first AI courses for teachers nationwide, with the goal of pioneering the application of AI in education, helping teachers apply practical applications of AI in the classroom, such as supporting the creation of lesson plans, lectures, and grading.

The program consists of 8 lectures and will be held online every Sunday from June to August 2024. Additional support activities for teachers, educational institutions and educators will continue throughout the year with the STEAMese Festival 2024 scheduled for October 2024; the Southeast Asia Scratch Teacher Meetup 2024 in October 2024; and various workshops on AI applications in the teacher community from 2024 to 2025.

After 8 lessons, STEAM for Vietnam hopes to continue to accompany teachers after the courses, supporting the effective application of STEM/STEAM and Gen AI knowledge learned into daily teaching programs. The goal is not only to optimize daily work, but also to create and effectively convey learning content to students.

Students can use Gen AI to self-evaluate their own or their group’s work, thereby improving their self-learning and critical thinking skills. However, STEAM for Vietnam will conduct thorough research to help teachers introduce Gen AI to students carefully, with analysis of the advantages and limitations of AI, to ensure that AI is used responsibly and not abused.

In addition, applying Computational Thinking to problem solving will help students enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills through specific steps such as Separate - Find - Look - Write. Students can also design characters with Gen AI and program 2D games with Scratch, thereby developing programming and logical thinking skills.

To support teachers in teaching Computational Thinking to students, STEAM for Vietnam will organize teaching workshops. These workshops will help teachers analyze problems, develop critical thinking to master technology, and at the same time provide new methods to encourage students to be creative in learning. In addition, the workshops also guide teachers on how to apply Computational Thinking in different subjects, helping students connect knowledge and develop comprehensively.
