Ms. TML, the baby boy's mother, said: "I was 24 weeks pregnant when my amniotic fluid leaked and I had to give birth early at Dong Nai General Hospital. Because I was only 24 weeks and 6 days pregnant, the baby boy was born weighing only 900g, his body was weak, the doctor said his chance of survival was very slim. After being born, the baby was immediately taken to Dong Nai Children's Hospital for intensive care."
According to Dr. Huynh Thi Thanh, this is the most premature case ever successfully kept alive at the hospital. When admitted, the baby was in a very weak condition, with undeveloped lungs. Doctors have synchronously applied many modern resuscitation techniques, including non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and Lisa surfactant injection to help the lungs expand naturally, limiting damage... LISA surfactant injection helps to gently and physiologically deliver medicine into the lungs according to the baby's breathing rhythm, helping the lungs expand well, limiting injury.
The baby was cared for in an incubator with humidity up to 90% in the first days, fed intravenously with full protein, sugar, fat and trace elements, and closely monitored each respiratory and cardiovascular index. Doctors also had to increase the amount of breast milk little by little, from 0.5 ml to 1 ml per feeding so that the baby's body could gradually adapt. During the treatment, the baby faced the risk of infection, pneumonia and apnea many times due to an immature nervous system.

Thanks to the perseverance and dedication of the medical team and the love of the young mother and her family, the baby boy gradually recovered. After 78 days of treatment, the baby gained 1.8 kg, was exclusively breastfed, had rosy skin, stable breathing and was about to be discharged from the hospital.
“This is a very encouraging case, demonstrating the professional competence and dedication of the medical team in caring for premature infants. The baby is the most premature case to be successfully saved at the hospital so far. From now on, the baby will continue to be monitored periodically to assess physical development, movement, vision, hearing…” - Dr. Thanh shared.
