Speed up the construction progress of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Dong Nai

In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Construction Project in Dong Nai needs to speed up investment progress to create human resources for the province in the coming years.

According to the report of the Department of Health, the investor of the project "Developing human resources for health, phase 2" is the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City proposed a project construction area of about 41 hectares, of which the educational land (construction of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy) is about 21 hectares; the medical land (construction of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital) is about 16.4 hectares and the remaining traffic planning land area is about 3.6 hectares in Phuoc Thai commune, Dong Nai province.

The origin of land use is managed by Dong Nai Rubber Corporation Limited Company, the current land use status is rubber tree planting. In Notice No. 79/TB-UBND dated January 31, 2024 of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province (old): Conclusion of the working session with Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy on investment in building the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy facility under the project "Developing human resources for health, phase 2", the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Investment (now the Department of Finance) as the focal agency of the Provincial People's Committee to guide Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy to carry out investment procedures to build the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy facility and the accompanying hospital.

During the stage of guiding the implementation of investment project procedures, it is within the advisory functions and tasks of the Department of Finance; therefore, on July 17, 2025, the Department of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 314/SYT-KHTC proposing the Provincial People's Committee to assign the Department of Finance as the focal agency of the Provincial People's Committee; the Department of Health coordinates related contents to work with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City to continue guiding the procedures to speed up the project investment progress.

Director of the Department of Health Do Thi Nguyen said: The Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy campus in Dong Nai expands learning opportunities for children living in the province; creates conditions for the province's doctors to update their expertise and "promises" to increase the number of doctors per 10,000 people in the province in the future. Therefore, the health sector hopes that this project will be implemented soon.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son emphasized: The Provincial People's Committee, relevant departments and branches and the People's Committee of Phuoc Thai commune will work with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City as soon as possible to speed up the implementation of the project. This is an important project because it will support the province in training human resources, especially doctors. However, the health sector must count the number of students studying here and clearly state the fields that need to be "ordered" with the school. After that, the Provincial People's Committee will sign an agreement with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City in the next 5-10 years.
