Accordingly, patient TTTT (40 years old, Van Ninh district) was admitted to the Provincial General Hospital with symptoms of prolonged headache, decreased vision, and complete loss of smell. Diagnosis and MRI results showed a large meningeal tumor in the middle skull base, spreading to the frontal and temporal lobes, compressing the optic and olfactory nerves and brain parenchyma. This is a particularly dangerous and difficult-to-reach location. However, given the patient's critical condition, the surgical team of the two departments decided to perform an intervention on the patient.
The medical team of the Provincial General Hospital performed surgery on the patient. |
The patient had a frontal-temporal craniotomy performed by the medical team to provide optimal access to the skull base; the tumor was dissected under a microscope, while preserving the most important nerve structures, especially the optic nerve. After 8 hours of intense surgery, the surgery was successful. The patient recovered well, was fully alert, and had significantly improved vision; no new neurological disorders appeared after surgery.
The success of the surgery is an important milestone affirming the high skills of the medical team; the effective coordination of multiple specialties and the good application of modern surgical support equipment; affirming the role of the Provincial General Hospital as the final line in treating complex neurological and cranial diseases. Thereby, helping people access advanced technology right in the locality, reducing the burden of referrals.
