The patient who has just successfully undergone autologous stem cell transplantation is Ha Thi AT (born in 1978, residing in Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province). The patient was brought to Da Nang Hospital by her family in a state of bone pain all over her body, unable to walk on her own, then a large clavicle tumor appeared, encroaching on the entire neck area.

The patient received chemotherapy and achieved remission and was transferred to the transplant area (absolutely sterile isolation area) at the Organ Transplant and Stem Cell Transplant Center of Da Nang Hospital to perform the transplant procedure. The transplant process went smoothly, the patient recovered quickly and is now able to live a normal life.

Da Nang Hospital successfully performed autologous stem cell transplant

According to Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Huong, Department of Neurology - Musculoskeletal - Clinical Hematology, Da Nang Hospital, multiple myeloma is a malignant disease in the hematopoietic system, commonly found in middle-aged and elderly people. The disease progresses silently, but when detected, it is often in the late stages with symptoms such as bone pain, fractures, anemia, kidney failure, prolonged infections...

With autologous stem cell transplantation, after only 2-3 weeks, multiple myeloma patients can be discharged from the hospital and return to normal life.

Previously, in March 2025, Da Nang Hospital successfully performed an autologous stem cell transplant for patient Ho Thi N. (born in 1973, residing in Quang Ngai province). Ms. N. was diagnosed with stage 3 multiple myeloma and underwent bone fusion surgery, and 4 courses of medication, each lasting 3 weeks. After completing the chemotherapy sessions, the patient achieved complete remission, so she was indicated for a bone marrow transplant using the autologous stem cell transplant method.

The patient had his stem cells separated by doctors using a separator, then infused back into the patient's body through an intravenous line. After nearly 20 days of stem cell infusion, the patient was stable, walking normally and discharged from the hospital.

It is known that since 2023, Da Nang Hospital has officially mastered the technique of autologous stem cell transplantation and put it into routine treatment, in the future helping patients with malignant hematological diseases such as lymphoma, myeloproliferative syndrome, multiple myeloma, leukemia, Hodgkin's disease,... to be treated promptly locally.
