On April 9, Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc - Deputy Minister of Health , in charge of managing and operating Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC) - said that he had assigned the hospital's social work department to purchase health insurance for patients nationwide.
Accordingly, in order to implement Project 06 on the national digital transformation program and aim for universal health insurance, the hospital's social work department has connected with units capable of supporting the purchase of health insurance nationwide.
In case a patient is hospitalized and does not have health insurance , the departments and rooms will proactively guide relatives to the social work department for advice and support in purchasing health insurance procedures.
In case of inpatients with difficult circumstances, the clinical department will send a "Request for hospital fee assistance" so that the social work department can purchase health insurance for the patient from the source mobilized from benefactors.
This is the first hospital in the country to implement a program to support the purchase of health insurance cards for patients and relatives nationwide.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , MSc. Le Minh Hien, head of the social work department at Cho Ray Hospital, said the hospital is the last line of treatment for severe cases, mainly patients transferred from other provinces, including many difficult cases.
There are patients who are hospitalized in serious condition but due to difficult circumstances cannot buy health insurance, leading to a burden in treatment or the inability to pay.
In reality, there are cases where patients have to pay up to billions of VND or stay in the intensive care unit where hospital fees can be up to 7-8 million VND/day, but the patients do not have health insurance .
Previously, the hospital also implemented many solutions to support disadvantaged patients such as giving health insurance , calling for help from benefactors...
"Support for purchasing health insurance cards will not only help you access timely medical services but also ensure that all patients have the opportunity to enjoy health insurance benefits, in line with the policy and spirit of "no one is left behind".
Therefore, relatives of patients and patients who have a citizen identification card but have not purchased a health insurance card can contact the hospital's social work department to purchase one, regardless of the province the patient is in, very convenient," said Master Hien.
