National Children's Hospital has a new facility for treating pediatric mental health.

The department has 15 inpatient beds and 2 psychological therapy rooms in the inpatient unit. The department currently has 30 staff members, including 9 doctors, 13 nurses, 8 psychologists and specialeducation teachers.

The Department of Psychiatry of the National Children's Hospital performs examinations, assessments, psychological tests, diagnosis, pharmacological treatment, and psychotherapy of mental health problems in children. In addition, the department is also responsible for psychological care of hospitalized children, interdisciplinary consultations, interdisciplinary consultations, medical examinations, and issuance of certificates of illness; scientific research and international cooperation. The department has applied early diagnostic and treatment methods for autistic children such as: PECS method, DBC-P test, sensory regulation, and psychomotor.

Recently, many psychological tests have been translated and edited by staff in the department to suit Vietnamese conditions and have been applied by many medical facilities in the country.

According to Master-Doctor Thanh Ngoc Minh, Head of the Department of Psychiatry (established by the Central Children's Hospital in 1993), every year the department receives and provides outpatient mental health treatment for about 30,000 pediatric patients and intervenes for 500 children with autism.
