To this day, the 4,000-year-old Stonehenge complex in England remains an unsolved mystery. Seen from above, Stonehenge is a surreal-looking circle of stone columns, but who or what created it?
The Stonehenge ancient stone complex is located on the moor west of Amesbury village, on Salisbury Plain in southern England, about 137km southwest of London. Seen from above, Stonehenge is a complex of large stone columns arranged in a circle. Each stone column is about 4m high, about 2m wide, about 1m thick and weighs about 25 tons. Of which, the two heaviest stone columns weigh about 50 tons. On some stone columns, there are also stones arranged horizontally like rafters, forming a large archway.
Surrounding the concentric stone rings is a 6m deep, 21m wide moat with high banks, inside there are 56 holes also forming a circle. The holes are now filled with limestone, inside there are still ashes.
Stonehenge is one of the most famous tourist attractions in England, and also one of the greatest archaeological mysteries of mankind, challenging all hypotheses, speculations and research of famous archaeologists in the world .
Recent archaeological findings suggest that Stonehenge was the resting place of British aristocrats around the 19th century BC, and was also the site of the oldest known cremation rituals. In addition, some scientists have also suggested that Stonehenge could be an ancient observatory, a temple or a place of worship, or even a prehistoric structure left on Earth by aliens.
Countless hypotheses have been put forward, but what has puzzled scientists is how people could transport such a large number of stones with enormous mass from Prezi Mountain, about 200km away, and all the joints are completely precise under the condition of no other means of assistance other than human power.
Standing in front of Stonehenge, I have a very magical and strange feeling, as if I am standing in front of the gate of different dimensions. I believe that, at some special time in the future, perhaps the mysteries surrounding Stonehenge will be solved and take people on a journey to discover the unimaginable.
The best time to visit Stonehenge is in the summer. At that time, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, admire the ancient beauty and freely explore the mysteries of this place.
From London to Stonehenge, visitors should join a tour to reduce costs and save time. If you want to explore on your own, you can take the train from Waterloo station to Salisbury in about 90 minutes. From Salisbury, there is no public bus route to Stonehenge, visitors can take the Stonehenge Tour internal bus directly from this station to the Stonehenge Visitor Center about 14km away.
