Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang and the working delegation conducted a field survey at the waste treatment plant of Vietstar Joint Stock Company at the Northwest Solid Waste Treatment Complex (Thai My commune and Tan An Hoi commune, Ho Chi Minh City).

The delegation surveyed the items of the technology conversion project of Vietstar Joint Stock Company including the input waste classification line and the construction of the power generation incineration plant.

The VietStar waste-to-energy plant project is one of the key projects in the new era of waste management in Ho Chi Minh City. The plant is designed with a processing capacity of 2,000 tons/day, with a total investment of about 3,500 billion VND.

When the project is completed, together with the waste incineration plant project of Tam Sinh Nghia Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, it will help increase the rate of incinerated waste to nearly 50% of the total amount of waste generated in the city today.

More importantly, this is not just a waste treatment plant, but an important step forward in the strategy of developing renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and improving the living environment.

Thereby ensuring urban energy security, in line with the sustainable development orientation of the whole country.

Waste-to-energy projects in Ho Chi Minh City

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 5 projects converting waste treatment technology to burning for electricity generation under implementation.

In which, the projects of VietStar Joint Stock Company (2,000 tons/day) and Tam Sinh Nghia Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (2,000 tons/day) have started construction.

The remaining three units are carrying out legal procedures to invest in technology conversion projects, including Tasco Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Waste Treatment Company Limited and Ho Chi Minh City Urban Environment Company Limited.
