Billiards: In which arena will Tran Quyet Chien continue to 'hunt' for precious titles?

Tran Quyet Chien still has 4 more chances to seek his first title in 2025, and at the same time change the situation on the rankings based on the total achievements of all World Cup stages this season.

Best result is runner-up

The 2025 season will have 7 World Cup billiards stages. Up to now, Tran Quyet Chien and Vietnamese players have competed in 4 World Cup stages, respectively in Bogota (Colombia in March), Ho Chi Minh City (May), Ankara (Turkey, June) and most recently in Porto (Portugal, July).

In 2024, Tran Quyet Chien had an extremely favorable start with the championship at the first World Cup billiards stage, in Bogota - Colombia. But more than half of the stages have passed in 2025, the number 1 player in Vietnam has not been able to step onto the highest podium. The best achievement of the Ha Tinh native from the beginning of 2025 until now is the runner-up position at the Ankara Billiards World Cup 2025, after losing to Eddy Merckx in the final match. At the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup 2025, Tran Quyet Chien reached the semi-finals and tied for third place.

However, Tran Quyet Chien still has 3 more World Cup billiards rounds in 2025. Specifically, the World Cup billiards rounds will be held in Belgium, Korea and Egypt, in October, November and December respectively. These are opportunities for Tran Quyet Chien to seek his first championship title in 2025, and at the same time accumulate points on the overall ranking (calculating the total points of 7 World Cup billiards rounds to find the best player of the year). On this ranking, Quyet Chien is in 3rd place with 118 points. Dick Jaspers (Netherlands) leads with 152 points, Eddy Merckx (Belgium) ranks second with 142 points.

In addition, another important arena for players is the 2025 World Championship, which will also take place in Belgium next October. This is the most prestigious tournament in the system of the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB). The winner of this tournament will receive up to 120 bonus points on the world rankings.

The World Championship is also a title that Tran Quyet Chien is still missing from his collection. In 2023, Vietnam's No. 1 player was very close to winning the World Championship, when he reached the final match of the tournament. However, Quyet Chien lost to Bao Phuong Vinh, who was playing very well at that time.

Vietnam has a World Cup billiards champion in 2025

After 4 rounds of the World Cup billiards since the beginning of 2025, the only Vietnamese player to have won the championship is Tran Thanh Luc. The player born in 1990 won the championship at the World Cup billiards Bogota 2025, which took place in March in Colombia. Thanh Luc defeated veteran Turkish player Tasdemir Tayfun in the final match. This is the first World Cup billiards championship in the career of the player from Binh Duong .
