Binh Phuoc: Welcoming the remains of 80 martyrs and Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia

The remains of 80 Vietnamese martyrs, volunteer soldiers and experts who died during the war in Cambodia have just been gathered and returned to their homeland for burial.

On June 26, at Hoa Lu International Border Gate (Loc Ninh District), Steering Committee 515 of Binh Phuoc Province held a ceremony to welcome officers and soldiers of Team K72 (Binh Phuoc Provincial Military Command) back to the country, completing the mission of searching, collecting and bringing the remains of 80 martyrs who died in Cambodia (phase II, phase XXIV, dry season 2024 - 2025) back to the country for burial.

Binh Phuoc Province's 515 Steering Committee welcomed officers and soldiers of Team K72 and 80 martyrs' remains back home.

Phase II, phase XXIV, Team K72 sent 32 officers and soldiers to search and collect remains in 80 villages and 40 communes in 16 districts of Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces. After more than 4 months of searching, with a high sense of responsibility, effort and perseverance to overcome difficulties, Team K72 searched and collected 80 sets of remains; of which 74 were searched and collected in Kratie province.

Major General Le Ngoc Hai, Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Head of Steering Committee 515, Military Region 7, presented flowers and gifts to encourage Team K72 at the welcoming ceremony.

Over the years, the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Phuoc province have always identified the search and collection of remains of martyrs, volunteer soldiers and Vietnamese experts who died during the war in Cambodia as an important political task. Many sets of remains were searched, collected and brought back to their homeland by Team K72, meeting the expectations of the martyrs’ relatives and expressing deep gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for the noble international duty.

All 80 martyrs' remains will be preserved and buried at the Binh Phuoc Province Martyrs' Cemetery.

Specifically, from 2002 to 2025, Team K72 has made great efforts to overcome many difficulties, searched for thousands of locations and excavated in the country, repatriated in Cambodia 3,874 remains of martyrs who died during different periods to be buried at the Binh Phuoc Province Martyrs' Cemetery (including 3,163 remains of martyrs collected in Cambodia and 711 remains of martyrs collected in the country).

Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the martyrs' remains were brought back for preservation and will be buried at the provincial martyrs' cemetery on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025).
