According to the report of the Department of Higher Education , at the end of the general university admission round in 2025, the number of candidates who completed admission confirmation was 625,477, of which, the university sector alone was 613,335 students, equivalent to 52.87% of the total number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam in 2025. The total number of candidates registered for admission was up to 852,000 with 7.6 million wishes for more than 4,000 majors and training programs of more than 500 universities and colleges nationwide.
These figures demonstrate the learning needs of learners and the human resource needs of the labor market, and the consolidation and increase of learners' and society's trust in the quality of higher education.
Notably, pedagogical majors and key technical majors, strategic technology strongly attract excellent candidates, especially at top universities. In the 74 majors with standard scores according to high school graduation exam scores from 28/30 or higher, there are 50 pedagogical majors and 17 key technical majors, strategic technology (computer science , artificial intelligence, semiconductor microchips, control and automation...).

Regarding admission methods, there are 17 admission methods, no longer early admission. All methods are considered at the same time, after candidates know their high school graduation exam scores, instead of early admission with some methods like previous years.
Notably, the admission rate based on high school graduation exam scores is 39.1%; academic records are 42.4% and other methods account for 18.5%.
The Ministry of Education and Training said it will seek opinions on whether to abolish or maintain the high school transcript admission method when by 2025, more than 42% of candidates will use their high school transcript scores to enter university. In the opinion poll, the Ministry of Education and Training will propose two options: abolish or continue using this admission method.
Considering academic records is the main admission method used by many universities for many years but has caused a lot of controversy. Many experts say this method is unfair because there is no common standard. Currently, each locality and each school, the assessment and scoring methods can be different, with a "skew" in the general level on a large scale.
