Integrated thematic teaching

Implementing the goal of fundamental and comprehensive innovation of the Education and Training sector, in recent school years, integrated thematic teaching at primary and secondary schools in Da Nang city has helped students deepen their knowledge, proactively learn and develop the ability to solve related problems.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh Van, a teacher at Pham Phu Thu Primary School (Nong Son Commune), said that when teaching Vietnamese to Grade 1 with the topic "Amazing Nature", the teacher guides students to observe details in the pictures, make inferences from the observed pictures and integrate environmental education content. From there, the students have a love for animals and nature, the ability to work in groups, the ability to recognize simple problems and ask questions.

For History and Geography, each subject is relatively systematic, suitable for its own characteristics, placed side by side, supporting each other. When studying the topic "Vietnam's Country and People", teachers guide students to harmoniously integrate historical knowledge and geographical knowledge to answer questions.

In the 2018 general education program of the Ministry of Education and Training , the integrated teaching method plays an important role, requiring students to acquire knowledge on their own, apply knowledge outside of school to develop their abilities and qualities. Thereby, students proactively learn, passionately explore, and develop comprehensively in intelligence and soul.

For secondary school level, Literature is an aesthetic, humanistic, multi-disciplinary subject. Therefore, when teaching this subject, teachers integrate moral education, ideals, aspirations for a positive life, spreading beauty to students. At the same time, they practice listening, speaking, reading, writing skills; and Vietnamese language skills.

For example, when guiding students to perceive the content of the work, teachers integrate education for students on the spirit of compassion, awareness of protecting nature, biodiversity, sense of discipline, self-awareness, responsibility for themselves and the surrounding community. Or when learning practical lessons on Vietnamese, teachers guide students to be aware and responsible in preserving the purity of Vietnamese.

Most recently, integrating digital citizenship education content into the teaching process of subjects and educational activities at primary level is an effective and feasible solution. From the lesson content, students have basic skills in using technology and communication safely and properly, which will help avoid risks and lurking dangers.

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Loi - Vice Principal of Hoang Dieu Primary School (Nong Son Commune) said that the integration of content must be suitable to the psychological characteristics of the age, the cognitive development level of students and the actual conditions of the school. At the same time, it must ensure the goals and requirements of the subjects and related educational activities, especially not causing overload for students and teachers.

“In addition, the teaching staff must be trained regularly, especially teachers who directly teach need to have a correct and clear understanding of digital citizenship skills education,” Ms. Loi said.
