On the morning of May 27, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention warned of the possibility of thunderstorms, localized heavy rains with tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind in the Central Highlands and the South today. At the same time, the Northern provinces and Thanh Hoa are preparing for heavy rain in the next 2 days.
According to meteorological experts, from the evening of May 28 to May 29, the Northern to North Central regions will welcome a northeast wind carrying cool air. Although not too cold because it is early summer, this wind will cause heavy rain over a large area. Thunderstorms will start from the northern mountainous region, then spread to the midlands and plains of the North.
Tonight and tomorrow night, May 28, the capital Hanoi and the delta provinces, Thanh Hoa may have strong thunderstorms.

On May 29, moderate to heavy rain is likely to appear in Nghe An and Ha Tinh, then gradually move down to Quang Binh and Quang Tri. It is expected that from May 31 to June 4, this area will enter a period of hot and dry weather due to the influence of Lao winds.

In the Central region, provinces from Hue to Quang Ngai are forecast to have scattered showers and thunderstorms from May 29 to June 1, concentrated in the afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, the South Central Coast (from Binh Thuan to Binh Dinh) in the last days of May will have weather alternating between sunshine and scattered showers, sometimes with light thunderstorms.
The Central Highlands and the South will continue to have heavy rain until the end of May. Entering June, the rain is expected to temporarily decrease in the first few days.
Faced with complicated weather conditions, on the evening of May 26, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep signed an official dispatch to provinces and cities in the North and Thanh Hoa, requesting measures to respond to the risks of floods, inundation, flash floods and landslides.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests localities to strictly implement Official Dispatch No. 70/CD-TTg of the Prime Minister dated May 23, 2025 on responding to natural disaster risks.
Specific measures proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment include: closely monitoring forecasts and warnings of heavy rain and floods; promptly informing people; reviewing residential areas along rivers, streams, and low-lying areas to clear the flow and evacuate people when necessary; inspecting key works, especially dams, dykes; ensuring traffic safety at deep flooded areas with fast-flowing water; preparing rescue forces and means, etc.
The document also requested media agencies to increase information about this heavy rain, helping people to promptly prevent and minimize risks.
