Kinhtedothi- The Ministry of National Defense has just announced the decision to establish the 34th Corps on the basis of merging the 3rd and 4th Corps. Minister Phan Van Giang attended and directed.


On December 15, in Pleiku City (Gia Lai Province), General Phan Van Giang - Member of the Politburo , Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense attended and gave a speech at the ceremony announcing the decision to establish the 34th Army Corps on the basis of merging the 3rd and 4th Army Corps.

Also attending the ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, along with leaders of the provinces where the 34th Corps is stationed.

Major General Nguyen Ba Luc - Commander of the 3rd Corps was appointed to the position of Commander of the 34th Corps, Major General Le Minh Quang - Chief of Politics of Military Region 9 was transferred and appointed to the position of Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the 34th Corps.

At the ceremony, General Phan Van Giang presented the "Determined to Win" Military Flag to the 34th Army Corps, a symbol of the tradition and strength of "Determined to Fight, Determined to Win" of the Vietnam People's Army.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Phan Van Giang said: Establishing the 34th Corps is a major policy of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense. This merger is not the first time, because a number of Military Regions and Corps have been dissolved after 1975. This is a policy that has been carefully and firmly implemented, with lessons learned at many levels, along with adjustments to the staff, weapons, equipment, and military positions.

The 34th Corps is identified as the strategic mobile main Corps, organized in the direction of being lean, compact, strong, and advancing towards modernity. The 3rd and 4th Corps are the two main corps of the Vietnam People's Army, born in the historical turning point of the resistance war to liberate the South and unify the country.

Implementing the Resolutions of the Politburo and the Central Military Commission, up to now, the Ministry of National Defense has dissolved, adjusted, merged, and newly established over 3,000 organizations and units. In 2024 alone, there will be nearly 1,100 organizations and units. In February 2025, the General Department of Logistics and the General Department of Engineering will merge. The Department of Military Training and the Department of Schools will also merge into one.

The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense believe that with new spirit and determination, officers and soldiers of the 34th Corps will successfully complete all assigned tasks, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, State, People, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and officers and soldiers of the entire army.

Previously, Minister Phan Van Giang and leaders of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the 34th Corps offered incense and commemorated the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for national liberation and reunification at the Martyrs' Memorial and visited the 34th Corps Museum.
