Minister Nguyen Chi Dung received the Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry

(MPI) – On the afternoon of July 8, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment , Minister Nguyen Chi Dung had a courtesy meeting with the Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung welcomed Minister Tengku Zafrul to visit Vietnam and attend the meeting of the Vietnam - Malaysia Joint Trade Committee; believing that the visit will be a great success, continuing to make an important contribution to strengthening cooperation in the field of trade and investment, developing the relationship between the two countries in a practical and effective manner.

The Minister said that Vietnam and Malaysia have complementary advantages to develop together, support each other in improving the investment environment and participating more deeply in the value chain; hope that Malaysian enterprises consider Vietnam an ideal investment destination. The Ministry of Planning and Investment welcomes Malaysian enterprises to invest in a number of priority sectors and fields such as digital economy , green economy, and energy transition.

The Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is committed to always listening, accompanying and supporting foreign investors in general and Malaysian investors in particular to invest and do business smoothly and effectively. The Ministry of Planning and Investment will always closely coordinate with the Malaysian Embassy and investors to jointly remove obstacles and difficulties in ongoing projects, further deepening the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Minister Tengku Zafrul thanked Vietnam for the warm and respectful reception for the delegation; emphasizing that Vietnam is an important destination for Malaysian businesses as Malaysia is present in areas such as infrastructure, real estate, environment, etc.

Regarding the field of green technology, Mr. Tengku Zafrul affirmed that investors always support the implementation of green energy solutions, especially cooperation in developing electric vehicle ecosystems, oil and gas, etc., thereby enhancing the capacity as well as the position and role of ASEAN in the world./.

As of June 20, 2024, Malaysia has 745 valid projects with a total registered capital of 13.07 billion USD, ranking 10th out of 146 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, focusing on areas such as education and training (accounting for 28% of total registered investment capital), processing and manufacturing industry (accounting for 20%), production and distribution of electricity, gas, water, and air conditioning (accounting for 20%).

Malaysian investors have invested in 34/63 provinces and cities in Vietnam, led by Ho Chi Minh City with 348 projects worth 4.88 billion USD; followed by Tra Vinh province, Hanoi city, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Da Nang.
