Vietnam has currently recorded more than 32,000 cases of dengue fever, with the southern region accounting for more than 70% of the total cases. In addition to dengue fever, there is a risk of "overlapping epidemics" when other infectious diseases such as hand, foot and mouth disease, flu, Covid-19, and measles are still circulating.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that if localities do not implement drastic prevention measures from the beginning of the season, the risk of an outbreak in 2025 is very high. Accordingly, Vietnam is one of the countries at high risk of dengue fever and is in the "pandemic threat", the World Health Organization (WHO) said.
The year-round hot and humid tropical monsoon climate creates ideal conditions for the Aedes mosquito (which transmits diseases) to develop, especially when climate change and the El Nino phenomenon cause prolonged heat waves and unusual rains.
