Training teachers, making English the second language in schools

More than 150 teachers attended a forum in Da Nang to discuss solutions to make English a second language in schools.

On August 22, the University of Foreign Languages ​​(University of Danang ) coordinated with the British Council to organize a forum on "Educating and training staff to effectively implement the introduction of English as a second language in schools".

The event attracted more than 150 teachers from primary, secondary and high schools from Da Nang City, Quang Ngai and Dak Lak .

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Ta Ngoc Tri, Deputy Director of the General Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training), emphasized that making English the second language in the national education system is a major policy of strategic significance, associated with Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW of the Politburo on fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training. Mr. Tri said that the Ministry has issued many projects, programs and action plans to synchronize solutions, from policy development, program innovation, staff training to improving teaching methods and assessing foreign language proficiency.

“To realize this goal, the training and development of the teaching staff plays a key role. The forum is a valuable opportunity for managers, experts, and lecturers to share ideas, suggest practical directions, and contribute to making English truly become the second language in Vietnamese schools,” emphasized Dr. Ta Ngoc Tri.

Experts share international experiences on developing capacity for teachers of English as a second language

At the forum, many experts presented papers on the role of foreign language training in implementing the policy; international perspectives and research on professional development for teachers; and solutions to promote the roadmap for making English a second language in the national education system. In addition, delegates also exchanged international experiences, pointed out opportunities and challenges in the implementation process, and proposed solutions to improve the capacity of the teaching staff, promote the role of universities and Departments of Education and Training in supporting, monitoring and accompanying general schools.

The forum is considered a concrete step, contributing to creating an important foundation for implementing the National Project "Making English the Second Language in Schools", aiming to build a more modern, integrated and effective foreign language learning environment in the future.
