English Proficiency Training - The Foundation for the Integrated Vietnamese Generation

On November 6, in Hanoi, Thanh Nien Newspaper in collaboration with SunUni Academy organized the announcement of the implementation of the national educational scholarship program "S80 International Education Scholarship" for students and working people who aspire to improve their foreign language skills and expand their learning and career opportunities.

Delegates participated in the discussion "The role of English in the era of growth" at the program.

At the discussion session on the role of English in the era of development, sharing about the role of English in Vietnam's education today, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hong, former Deputy Director of the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers ( Ministry of Education and Training ) said: English is increasingly becoming a core element of integration capacity, a tool to expand knowledge, access science and technology and connect the international community.

Resolution 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development has created a strong shift in English teaching and learning methods, not only in teaching and learning methods but also in the entire educational ecosystem. The current goal is to make English the second language in schools, improve the quality of related subjects; and at the same time create an environment for using real English in schools. The innovation of testing and assessment is also emphasized, shifting from a memorization model to assessing language proficiency, associated with the application of information technology in teaching and testing.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hong, former Deputy Director of the Department of Teachers and Educational Managers (Ministry of Education and Training) spoke at the program.

This is not just a program adjustment, but a long-term strategic orientation to build sustainable integration capacity for the young generation of Vietnam.

"In the context that the Ministry of Education and Training is implementing the Project "Making English the second language in schools for the period 2025-2035, with a vision to 2045", the S80 Scholarship is expected to be an important socialized resource, contributing to realizing this national goal," Ms. Thuy Hong emphasized.

Representative of British University Vietnam (BUV), Dr. Natalie Sasha Goodwin, Director of the Center for Academic Development, British University Vietnam (BUV) shared: In the context of AI and digital transformation changing the way knowledge is created and received, the most important capacity of learners is perseverance and persistence in pursuing goals despite changing learning methods and environments.

According to Ms. Natalie, for students to be truly good in practice, education needs to focus on learning experiences, critical thinking, communication skills and independent thinking. BUV implements a thinking-based assessment method, encouraging students to ask questions, debate and develop confidence in an open learning environment where students are allowed to make mistakes, given the opportunity to try and motivated to succeed.

SunUni Academy Chairman Nguyen Tien Nam said: "We are deeply aware that our responsibility is huge. When establishing the S80 Scholarship, we aspire not only to have ourselves, but also to have more partners - Vietnamese people who share the same passion for education, to join hands to bring English closer to students, university students and working people in Vietnam."

The S80 program is expected to award a total of 8,000 scholarships (full and partial, including partial scholarships of up to 70%), applicable to courses from foundation to IELTS 7.5 target, suitable for many different levels of ability of students. The core goal is to create a real impact such as improving academic English proficiency, building outstanding profiles and expanding scholarship, study abroad and career opportunities at home and abroad.

Notably, not only stopping at the educational goal, S80 Scholarship also carries the mission of gratitude and sharing with 80 free full scholarships for children, siblings, and grandchildren of war invalids, martyrs, people with meritorious services to the revolution, and children and siblings of soldiers on duty at the border and islands; 80 full scholarships, worth 7.56 billion VND for outstanding students nationwide, those who have inspirational articles on the topic "S80 Generation Rising".
