Faced with the complicated developments of storm Kalmaegi and the impact of high tides, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has issued an urgent notice, requesting educational institutions in the area to deploy response plans.

The Department recommends that heads of units prepare response plans for worst-case scenarios, especially storms, tornadoes, landslides, and flooding caused by heavy rain combined with high tides.

Notably, the Department directed to suspend extracurricular activities for students before, during and after the storm. Units proactively plan online teaching, or postpone class schedules if the storm develops complicatedly.

Following this directive, many schools adjusted their school schedules and notified parents.

At noon on November 6, the PennSchool System sent out a series of text messages, encouraging parents to pick up their children from 2:30 p.m. and before 3:30 p.m., earlier than usual (4 p.m.) to limit travel during heavy thunderstorms.

Parents of Phuoc Long B Kindergarten (Phuoc Long Ward) said that the school announced that the gate would be opened for parents to pick up their children from 3:00 p.m. if needed, instead of 4:00 p.m. as usual.

At Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School (Sai Gon Ward), the school decided that from November 7, all students will leave school at 3:40 p.m. The announcement clearly stated that club classes after this time will be made up in the future. Parents who are not able to pick up their children early can register for a nanny to look after their children until 5:00 p.m.

Some schools focused on suspending extracurricular activities. On the evening of November 5, Mr. Pham Van Phuoc, Principal of Bui Van Ba Primary School (Nha Be Commune), announced that students would temporarily suspend extracurricular activities (Taekwondo, Aerobics, IC3 Spark IT) from November 6 until the weather is safe. The school asked parents to pick up students on time, which is 4 p.m.

Duy Tan Secondary School and Vung Tau Secondary School will allow students to study online from the afternoon of November 6. The plan for November 7 will be announced later.
