On the afternoon of November 6, when storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi storm) raged fiercely in the East Sea with gusts of wind above level 17, heading straight for the South Central region, the atmosphere of urgent storm prevention and control covered the entire coastal area of Dak Lak .

In the two communes of Xuan Canh and Xuan Loc, which are expected to be most severely affected, hundreds of police officers, soldiers, militia forces, and local authorities have been working hard to help people evacuate and arrange safe accommodation before the storm makes landfall.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Tam, Chairman of Xuan Canh Commune People's Committee informed: The whole commune has 11 villages, with more than 140 households living in areas at risk of high tides, landslides, and flooding. The government has propagated, mobilized and supported the evacuation of people to safe places to avoid storms and floods.

In Xuan Loc commune, authorities also checked and evacuated more than 200 households in low-lying and coastal areas before the storm made landfall.

Soldiers, militia and local authorities took people to safe storm shelters.

Not only numbers, in each evacuation there are many hearts of sharing and caring. At Xuan Hoa Border Guard Station, 19 households with 44 people in the tidal and landslide area of Hoa An village (Xuan Canh commune) have been arranged temporary accommodation here.

Outside, the wind was howling and the rain was pouring, but inside the barracks, people were gathered around a hot meal, the oil lamps shining on their emotional faces. The border guards not only provided accommodation, but also cooked and prepared each meal for the people.

In a small room, Ms. Le Thi Hay in Hoa An village emotionally confided: "Early this morning, the soldiers came to each house, helping people move to a safe place, and also arranged proper accommodation. It is very safe here, there is food, water, and a safe place to sleep. I heard that the storm will hit the mainland tonight, but with the soldiers taking care of us like this, everyone feels secure and very grateful!"

Next to him, Mr. Nguyen Thu - a lonely old man who was being taken care of by the medical staff of Xuan Hoa Border Guard Station, said with a trembling voice: "I am old, living alone, and every time I hear about the storm, I get worried. Now that you guys have brought me here, taken care of me, given me enough food and drink... I feel so warm inside!"

Those simple but heartwarming images are also what Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thai Hung - Chief of Xuan Hoa Border Guard Station always emphasizes when talking about the duty of soldiers on the front line: "For us, helping people in times of trouble is not only an order from the heart, but also the sentiment and responsibility of border guards towards the people."

Not only the authorities, many households with solid houses in the area have also proactively opened their doors to welcome their neighbors - those living in temporary houses, houses with roofs easily blown off - to take shelter from the storm. In the warm room, the sound of chatter and children's chirping amidst the fierce storm are peaceful moments, where the neighborly love becomes a support, warming people's hearts amidst the storm.

Amidst the Kalmaegi storm, in the hearts of the people of Xuan Canh and Xuan Loc, faith shone - faith in sharing, in the close relationship between the army and the people, in sharing and unanimity in overcoming difficulties, in the spirit of "leaving no one behind" in the midst of harsh natural disasters.
