Discussion on production and consumption linkage of tilapia products

On the afternoon of November 6, Mr. Pham Minh Truyen - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the working delegation worked with Vinh Kim commune and Cuu Long Seafood Joint Stock Company to discuss the situation of linking the consumption of tilapia products in the area.

The working group surveyed the nursery farm in Vinh Kim commune.

According to the leaders of Vinh Kim commune, currently in the commune there are 61 households raising nearly 4 million fish fry on 42 hectares of water surface. Up to now, 59 households have harvested with an output of 850 tons. However, most of the households raise tilapia spontaneously, the price of tilapia depends a lot on traders, so the output is unstable, while production costs are high, farmers have low profits, even losses.

At the meeting, the parties assessed the current situation of tilapia farming and consumption linkage in the locality, noted the advantages and difficulties and proposed solutions to remove obstacles in the production and consumption linkage stage, in order to support farmers and businesses to stabilize product output. After the meeting, the working group surveyed the actual tilapia farming model of Cuu Long Seafood Joint Stock Company in Vinh Kim commune.

Through the survey, Mr. Pham Minh Truyen acknowledged the efforts of the locality and enterprises in maintaining aquaculture activities and suggested that the locality strengthen propaganda so that farming households can have production plans and avoid spontaneous farming that causes price risks. At the same time, he emphasized the need to build clear and specific linkage contracts according to regulations to ensure effective operations, stable output, contributing to the development of a sustainable aquaculture value chain and increasing farmers' income.
