Personalized treatment of preeclampsia

During nearly 8 months of pregnancy, Ms. Hong Minh ( Hanoi ) only had prenatal check-ups at a clinic near her home. During the examination at Hong Ngoc Hospital in the 32nd week, the doctor noticed that Ms. Minh's blood pressure was abnormally high, ranging from 160 - 170/100 mmHg, at times reaching 180 mmHg, so he immediately ordered related tests. The results showed proteinuria, accompanied by generalized edema - typical signs of severe preeclampsia.

“Preeclampsia can be detected early through some basic indicators. However, because pregnant women are not checked and treated early, their blood pressure is high and they have severe edema.

If not controlled, preeclampsia will lead to the risk of premature birth, eclampsia, premature placental abruption, stillbirth, and even affect the mother's life" - Doctor Vu Thi Huong (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Hong Ngoc General Hospital) emphasized.

As soon as the condition was determined, the doctors discussed with the pregnant woman and her family, and prescribed urgent hospitalization to control blood pressure and closely monitor the progress of the pregnancy.

In the early days, treatment was difficult because the mother's health was very weak, her blood pressure was constantly high but she could not use conventional low-dose antihypertensive drugs.

With the goal of keeping the pregnancy for each day to increase the baby's chance of survival and ensure the mother's safety, doctors have developed a personalized treatment regimen, adjusting blood pressure medications according to each specific index, increasing the dose in small steps based on the actual response level.

In particular, in some critical moments, Ms. Minh had to use intravenous drugs to control her blood pressure urgently, then return to the maintenance treatment regimen. The entire process was closely monitored, the pregnant woman's blood pressure was continuously measured every 3 hours, uterine artery Doppler ultrasound and continuous monitoring was performed.

In addition to medical treatment, the hospital also implements a comprehensive care plan to help mothers maintain their health. At the same time, the medical team always accompanies and encourages mothers to be more steadfast throughout the journey of pregnancy.

At the same time, the fetus is also injected with early lung maturation to prepare for emergency surgery. In addition, the medical team also has a plan for cesarean section, fully prepares human resources and plans to handle all risks, ensuring the fastest and safest intervention for both mother and baby.

With close coordination between the hospital and the family, the pregnant woman's symptoms were gradually controlled to a stable level: blood pressure gradually decreased, proteinuria improved, and edema decreased significantly. At the 36th week, the doctors decided to deliver the baby.

At the moment of welcoming her healthy child, Ms. Minh could not hide her emotions: "I can only say thank you to the Hong Ngoc doctors who have wholeheartedly accompanied the mother and child, being a solid support for me to confidently keep the pregnancy until the last day."

Early prognosis increases the chance of survival for mother and baby

As a dangerous complication during pregnancy, preeclampsia usually appears after the 20th week of pregnancy with typical symptoms: high blood pressure, proteinuria, edema, increased liver enzymes, etc. If not detected early, preeclampsia can progress rapidly to eclampsia - causing convulsions, coma, directly threatening the lives of mother and baby.

Experts recommend that pregnant women should be screened for preeclampsia from 11 to 13 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy, combining blood pressure measurement, ultrasound and biochemical tests to proactively manage the risk. Early prediction of preeclampsia risk helps doctors develop a preventive plan from the beginning of pregnancy to ensure the safety of mother and baby.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Hong Ngoc General Hospital with a team of experienced obstetricians will accompany pregnant mothers throughout the pregnancy and childbirth journey according to a personalized regimen, ensuring that mothers and babies receive comprehensive health care according to ACHS standards.
