According to Xinhua News Agency, on April 7, Brazil officially announced that it would return to the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) - an organization that the country withdrew from in 2019.
“As it renews its key international alliances, Brazil will once again join UNASUR,” the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The decision will officially take effect on May 6. The ministry also affirmed that Brazil is committed to integrating South America into a region of peace and cooperation, in line with efforts to promote regional integration.
Founded in 2008, UNASUR is an intergovernmental regional organization that once included 12 South American countries. Brazil officially withdrew from the organization in April 2019.
