"I want to stay with MU until the club no longer needs me. I want to contribute more to bring the team to the top," Bruno Fernandes shared with Portuguese media after the defeat to Tottenham in the 2024/25 Europa League final, "However, if MU thinks it's time to say goodbye, or make money from selling me, there's no problem because that's football."
MU is currently under great financial pressure, in addition to falling revenue, threatened by the rules of profit and sustainability of the Premier League. The situation became more serious after the defeat in the final in Bilbao. In addition to the prize money for the champion team, the Red Devils also missed out on a ticket to next season's Champions League worth tens of millions of pounds.
"It's sad," said Bruno Fernandes, "We wanted to win this final more than anything. United could have made history by winning the championship, but we lost. Football is so cruel. We have to admit that this season's result is unacceptable."
This is also the second time Bruno Fernandes has failed in the Europa League final, after the previous time in 2021. After 5 and a half seasons, he has only won 2 titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup, with MU.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Saudi Arabian clubs were ready to pay a large sum to take the 30-year-old midfielder away from United, along with a salary of nearly £200 million on a three-year contract. United are currently in dire need of money to balance the books as well as raise funds for transfers to rebuild the squad. In January, they intended to sell Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo to solve the immediate difficulties.
