Recently, HYBE Chairman Bang Si Hyuk gave a speech about Kpop at the Kwanhun Forum in Seoul. In his speech, he pointed out the success of top groups such as BTS and Blackpink and called on industry insiders to innovate and be alert to challenges.
Accordingly, Bang Si Hyuk believes that Kpop is starting to have a strong influence globally, in which BTS and Blackpink are the names that have brought the Korean entertainment industry to new heights.
He also emphasized the key role of Kpop in promoting different fields such as fashion , consumer goods, education, etc.
The cultural impact and global appeal of Kpop has helped South Korea make positive strides.
However, amid these achievements, Bang Si Hyuk warned those in the industry not to be complacent: "We should have a sense of crisis rather than be satisfied with proud achievements."
HYBE’s president pointed out that there is a gap between Kpop and global album sales. In which, big companies like Universal, Sony and Warner Music are dominating, taking the majority. Therefore, Korean entertainment companies and artists must constantly innovate and have a strategic approach to expand the presence and influence of Kpop globally.
Bang Si Hyuk also mentioned the challenges that K-pop faces in key markets like the United States. Since 2020, K-pop groups have appeared a lot in the US, but their performance on the charts has decreased, showing that the music has not reached the public and lacks appeal.
The man behind BTS' success calls on major K-pop companies to continue growing and boosting their competitiveness in the international music market to raise the profile of Korean entertainment.
Before Bang Si Hyuk's statements, many people thought that he had correctly pointed out the current problems of the Kpop industry.
However, some public opinion believes that HYBE's president needs to resolve the company's internal problems and scandals related to ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin before giving advice and calling on people to develop Kpop.
