Over the past two days, fishermen in the Quang Tri coastal area have had a good start to the year thanks to catching a lot of anchovy (a type of sea fish that is delicious, rich in protein, easy to eat, and good for your health). People sell anchovy at high prices, earning millions of dong every day.
At 4:00 a.m. on February 3, fisherman Nguyen Van Ty (born in 1971, residing in village 5, Gio Hai commune, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province) and his younger brother sailed a 9CV boat out to sea to cast nets to "hunt" for anchovies (potato fish).
At 12 noon the same day, Mr. Ty returned to the village's beach with 25kg of fresh, white specialty anchovy fish.

As soon as Ty's ship arrived at the shore, the traders who had been waiting since early morning rushed out to buy, creating a bustling, bustling scene.
Each kilogram of anchovy costs 200,000 VND, Mr. Ty earned 5 million VND, called "sea luck" at the beginning of the new year of At Ty 2025.
Smiling, Mr. Ty said that for the past two days, nearly a hundred fishermen in Gio Hai commune have earned millions of dong every day thanks to catching anchovy, also known as khoai fish.
Chairman of Gio Hai Commune People's Committee Tran Viet Nam said that the name "ca khoai" and "ca chao" originated from unknown origin. The reason is that in the past, this type of fish had a white body, soft like porridge, and was sold at a cheap price, even no one bought it. However, in recent years, "ca chao" has become a specialty, selling like hotcakes.

The anchovy season comes early or late depending on the year, but usually after Tet, fishermen in Gio Hai coastal area catch a lot of fish, earning extra income for their families.
After purchasing anchovies from fishermen, traders will sell them in many places, or apply information technology, sell online, and ship them directly to customers.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hoai (residing in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri) said that after removing the head, fins, and tail of the anchovy, and washing it, it is marinated with fish sauce and spices, then put into a hot pot with tomatoes, pineapple, mushrooms, etc. to create a delicious specialty dish.
It is known that not only is the anchovy season a good one, fishermen in the coastal coastal areas of Quang Tri province also have a big catch when catching sea shrimp, bringing in millions of dong every day.
