With over 30 years of experience in the ornamental plant business, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh in Nam Dien commune (Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province) has a lot of experience in selecting plant varieties and creating beautiful products that suit consumer tastes.
Originally from a famous flower and ornamental plant growing area, Ms. Thanh used to buy small ornamental plants to transport to Nam Dinh city to sell on the streets, but for the past 6 years she has stopped at the tree market on Cot Co street (Nam Dinh city).
From 8am every day, after collecting goods from several gardeners in the Vi Khe bonsai village, Nam Dien commune (Nam Truc), she transports the plants to her small stall to display and take the time to take care of and trim the new pots.
With an area of only about 15m2, her booth has many types of ornamental plants, from perennial plants to small, pretty seasonal flower baskets. With the variety of flowers and ornamental plants, it is not difficult for customers to choose a satisfactory item at a reasonable price.
Ms. Thanh said: “With many years of experience selling decorative bonsai trees, I am quite sensitive to types of trees that follow social trends.
Besides buying plants from the garden to plant and shape, pot according to my own feelings and customers' needs, recently through social networks I have also searched for new, unique and easy-to-grow varieties of plants to meet customers' needs.
Caring for bonsai requires knowledge, expertise and techniques to create beautiful, vibrant potted plants. Therefore, I always learn to diversify my products, thereby bringing in a relatively stable source of income."
The growing popularity of miniature bonsai has helped business people make a living.
Cot Co Street (Nam Dinh City) alone has more than a dozen stalls, attracting many people to buy. Decorative miniature bonsai are usually divided into two main types: feng shui trees and small desk plants.
People in Vi Khe village, Nam Dien commune (Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province) create shapes for bonsai trees, miniature bonsai trees, bonsai trees are popular items.
Flower and ornamental plant products also have many types depending on the user's usage style such as: placing on the table, hanging on the wall, making decorative trellis with suitable prices to meet the needs of all customers.
Plants such as: money tree, tiger tongue, pothos, peace lily, lucky, happy, succulent, cactus, bamboo lily, anthurium, foxtail pine, aquatic plants... are small in size, suitable for decorating desks, study corners, coffee shops, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 VND/pot.
Plants used to hang or grow in pots on the balcony such as: petunias, periwinkle, black-eyed flowers, million bells hanging, pentacolor flowers, elegant flowers... cost from 70 to 250 thousand VND/basket.
Larger sizes with heights from 50cm to over 1m to decorate corners of the house or office cost from 200 thousand to 1 million VND/pot, depending on the size and type of pot.
These plants are not only beautiful but also have the meaning of bringing fortune, health, and happiness to the owner, so they are chosen by many consumers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, an office worker on Dong A Street (Nam Dinh City), said: "Office work in a rather small space sometimes makes me feel suffocated because all around me is paperwork for work.
So, I decided to buy a mini bonsai pot to put on my desk with the hope of creating an airy space, purifying the air, protecting my health, and helping me reduce "stress" every time I have a stressful job."
Vi Khe bonsai village, Nam Dien commune, Nam Truc district (Nam Dinh province) is a pioneer in developing bonsai cultivation in the province.
Along with valuable trees, bonsai trees are attracting many people to participate in production and business, creating jobs and high income for many people. In gardens, small, pretty trees with rough, ancient roots and beautiful, delicate flowers such as yellow apricot, white apricot, water mai, linden, mountain fir, and cam thi... with mini sizes are grown quite a lot.
In particular, the bonsai la han pine with beautiful shape, high disease resistance, long life span with the meaning of "Longevity like the southern mountain" for the homeowner is chosen by many customers.
In addition, there are also ornamental plants chosen by customers according to feng shui such as cycads, la han pines, pines, willows, resin pines, mai chieu thuy... suitable for the personality and work of each customer.

Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, in Thuong 1 village, Nam Dien commune, has about 1 hectare with hundreds of mini bonsai trees of all kinds: Sanh, Banyan, Barringtonia, and Barringtonia, supplying about 2,000 trees to the market each year.
In addition to serving customers in the province, he also serves customers in provinces and cities such as Hanoi , Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh and some provinces in the Central and Southern regions. Every year, Mr. Minh's miniature bonsai garden earns billions of dong in revenue.
He said that when growing mini bonsai trees, in addition to choosing pure Vietnamese seeds due to their ability to adapt well to weather conditions, are less susceptible to pests and diseases, and are easy to shape, the most difficult step is to edit and shape the tree.
Because most young trees are very fragile, to create a bonsai with form, soul and value requires the grower and pruner to have skillful hands, an aesthetic eye, passion and artistry.
Along with that, professionals also need to promptly grasp technology and consumer trends over time and by age to advise and market to players with aesthetics and creativity.
At the gardens, at this time, in addition to mini bonsai trees with shapes, decorative ornamental plants and small aquatic plants are also grown by the people of Nam Dien commune to serve the needs of the people, especially at the end of the year.
Bonsai trees do not take up much space, do not require much effort to transport, and at the same time help households growing and trading bonsai trees reduce costs and labor.
