On November 9, Chengdu (China) will become the center of the global e -sports scene with the League of Legends World Finals (Worlds 2025). In which, 2 representatives from Korea, T1 and KT Rolster, will face off in a BO5 series to compete for the most prestigious throne of the season.

The match was more than just a race for the championship trophy; it also symbolized a decades-long rivalry between South Korea’s two leading telecommunications companies. Since the 2000s, when Starcraft dominated the tournament scene, SK Telecom and Korea Telecom have invested heavily in eSports teams, turning virtual competitions into real- world brand wars.

T1, a team backed by SK Telecom, enters the finals with a storied history. Led by the legendary Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the team has won the world championship five times in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2023 and 2024. Faker is now not only an icon of Korean eSports but also a major shareholder of T1, continuing his pursuit of a sixth title in his career. This is also T1’s fourth consecutive appearance in the finals since 2022.

On the other side, KT Rolster, the third seed from Korea, are aiming for their first world title. The team showed impressive form by defeating Gen.G and star mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, T1 also showed a strong comeback with a 3-0 victory over Top Esports to qualify for Chengdu.

This year’s World Championships have been a showcase of high-level performances, demonstrating the appeal of the global esports scene. Teams like T1 are valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars, with huge revenue streams from prize money, sponsorship deals and brand licensing.

The success of the League of Legends game is no different from a real sports industry, where players sign long-term contracts and become the faces of many global brands.

The League of Legends 2025 Finals is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 9 and will be broadcast live on Twitch and YouTube. Amid the bright lights of Chengdu, the confrontation between T1 and KT Rolster promises to be one of the most memorable matches in the history of eSports.
