Recently, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported that by the end of August this year, whole Vietnamese butterfly-cut pangasius exported to 73 markets brought in more than 168 million USD, accounting for 13% of the total proportion of Vietnamese pangasius exported.
Saudi Arabia and Singapore spent more than 3 - 4 million USD to buy whole, split pangasius, while China increased its purchases to more than 93 million USD.
This number accounts for 55% of the proportion of whole Vietnamese butterfly-cut pangasius fish exported to other countries.
On September 27, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the Vietnam Pangasius Association said that in general, pangasius has seen a decrease in purchasing power in traditional markets such as the US and Europe in recent years due to the economic crisis, except for the Chinese market which is still importing, although the quantity is not the same as previous years.
"However, since the beginning of the year, China has increased its seafood imports. In the past 5 years, China has tended to import this product more strongly than frozen pangasius fillets. This is a huge seafood consumption market, so the export of frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius has increased by more than 140% in some years," he said.
Mr. Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, said that the US, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Iraq, Canada, Russia, the UK, and Uzbekistan also import frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius from Vietnam.
Because whole butterfly-cut pangasius is popular in international markets, taking advantage of this is the solution that many businesses are moving towards.
After China, Colombia ranks second in consumption of frozen whole butterfly-cut Vietnamese pangasius.
According to VASEP, after China, Colombia is the second largest consumer market for frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius, with export value in the first 8 months of this year reaching 13 million USD, accounting for 8% of the total export value of this product to markets.
