August Revolution - A brilliant milestone in the flow of national history

Seize the opportunity to launch a general uprising to seize power

78 years ago, the Vietnamese people began to enter the era of freedom and independence. The young government and the independence of the Vietnamese people were established by the unparalleled strength of the people's hearts as one. "Our people have a passionate love for their country. That is a precious tradition of ours. From ancient times until now, every time the Fatherland is invaded, that spirit boils up, it combines into an extremely strong, enormous wave that overcomes all dangers and difficulties; it drowns all traitors and invaders" (1).

On August 19, 1945, the General Uprising was victorious in the capital Hanoi, taking power into the hands of the people. With the momentum of an attack like thunder and lightning, the entire nation from North to South, millions of people as one, rose up to bring the General Uprising to complete victory, writing a new chapter in the history of the Vietnamese nation.

The August Revolution of 1945 was an exemplary manifestation of political science and art under the leadership of leader Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee, in which the science and art of proactively preparing forces, quickly seizing and seizing opportunities decisively and effectively stood out.

Since its inception in 1930, our Party has had the right policies and guidelines, outlining the path to victory for the Vietnamese revolution, which is to carry out “Bourgeois democratic revolution and land revolution to move towards a communist society” (2). The Party led the Vietnamese people to step-by-step victory in the first two general rehearsals of 1930-1931 and 1936-1939. The victory of the August Revolution created a solid foundation and premise for the people to trust and follow the Party’s call.

The August Revolution of 1945, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, set out a correct and creative revolutionary line, gathering all patriotic Vietnamese people in a broad national united front to carry out a world-shaking, earth-shattering General Uprising of historical significance. The great victory of the August Revolution was the victory of the great national unity bloc, a brilliant symbol of the ardent patriotism, of the indomitable will to refuse to lose the country, to refuse to be slaves, and the aspiration for freedom, peace, prosperity, happiness, and prosperity of the Vietnamese people that had been nurtured over thousands of years; at the same time, it was the victory of combining national strength with the strength of the times.

To achieve the victory of the August Revolution, President Ho Chi Minh called for “Nation above all”, “Fatherland above all”; “even if we have to burn down the Truong Son mountain range, we must win independence and freedom”. When the opportunity came, he quickly seized the once-in-a-thousand-years opportunity, mobilizing the entire population to rise up and seize power. In mid-August 1945, he issued a letter calling for a general uprising: “The decisive hour for the fate of our nation has come. The entire nation, let us rise up and use our own strength to liberate ourselves” (3).

Valuable lessons learned

The great achievements and invaluable historical lessons of the August Revolution were the luggage and strong spiritual motivation, urging our entire people and army, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, to carry out heroic, protracted resistance wars for 30 years, defeating the brutal foreign invaders of the time; overcoming countless dangers to establish glorious feats of arms, the peak of which was the Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954, "resounding throughout the five continents, shaking the earth" and the Great Spring Victory in 1975, liberating the South, reunifying the Fatherland, and leading the whole country to socialism.

The victory of the August Revolution in 1945 was one of the greatest victories of the Vietnamese revolution in the 20th century, a brilliant milestone in the history of the nation's thousand-year history. Not only having important significance for the Vietnamese people, the August Revolution in 1945 in Vietnam was the first victory in the new era of a weak nation that fought to liberate itself from the yoke of imperialism and colonialism. This victory strongly encouraged the struggle of oppressed nations against the yoke of imperialism, opening the period of the disintegration of colonialism throughout the world.

Nowadays, all Vietnamese people know by heart the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh: It is easy to endure a hundred times without the people. It is difficult to overcome a thousand times with the people. The Resolutions of the 12th and 13th National Congresses of the Party clearly stated: First of all, we must arouse the spirit of patriotism and love for the nation, create consensus among the whole society to carry out the work of protecting and building the country. Today's farmers continue to stick to the fields, forests, seas, etc. to enrich the country. The rice grains of the Mekong Delta and the Red River Delta have warmed the hearts of nearly 100 million people nationwide, helping the country overcome the impacts of the world and regional economic crisis during recessions; overcome the difficulties and challenges of natural disasters and epidemics; the victories in the innovative foreign policy and the courage have brought Vietnam to a new level. Our country is becoming more and more dignified and beautiful; our people have increasingly prosperous and happy lives as Uncle Ho always wished. Our people are continuing to write the golden pages of history of the new era.

The autumn of 1945 has gone down in the glorious history of the Vietnamese nation, the August Revolution - a brilliant milestone in the flow of history opening a new page, the most heroic page in the history of thousands of years of building and defending the country of the nation, making "The hearts of our ancestors a thousand years ago cool/Giving the world two new glorious words". Continuing and promoting the achieved results, applying the valuable experiences left by our ancestors; believing that each party organization, government, cadre, and party member is truly a pioneer, exemplary, cultivating virtue and talent, enhancing political capacity, promoting responsibility to society, building our Party cleanly and strongly, raising the aspiration to develop a powerful and prosperous Vietnam./.
