(Dan Tri) - From 2025, the way to calculate high school graduation scores will completely change according to new regulations.
According to the new regulations just issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the formula for calculating high school graduation scores will be divided equally 50-50 between graduation exam scores and academic results of all three years of high school.
Specifically, the high school graduation score consists of 3 components: total score of high school graduation exam subjects converted to a 10-point scale, average score of high school years, priority points (UT) and encouragement points (KK) if any.
In the average score of the school years, the learning results of grade 10 are calculated with a coefficient of 1, the learning results of grade 11 are calculated with a coefficient of 2, and the learning results of grade 12 are calculated with a coefficient of 3.
The academic result of each year is the average score of all subjects evaluated by the scores of each school year, rounded to 2 decimal places.
The formula for calculating the average score (GPA) of high school years is as follows:
Average of each school year = (GPA of grade 10 x 1 + GPA of grade 11 x 2 + GPA of grade 12 x 3)/6
The formula for calculating high school graduation scores is as follows:
In previous years, the formula for calculating high school graduation scores divided the ratio of 7-3 for graduation exam scores and academic results. In addition, academic results were only considered in grade 12.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that the increase in the rate of using transcripts from 30% to 50% will more closely assess learners' abilities according to the 2018 General Education Program, including many other abilities that the graduation exam does not fully assess.
In addition, report cards from grades 10 and 11 are also used to promote teaching and learning right from when students enter high school.
Foreign language certificates will continue to be used for exam exemption in graduation recognition consideration but will not be converted into 10 points in graduation recognition consideration as before; the graduation score calculation formula does not include foreign language points in this case.
This approach continues to encourage foreign language learning but aims to be more equitable in graduation. For example, previously, students with an IELTS 4.0 certificate were also converted to a score of 10, just like students with an IELTS 8.5 score.
Regarding incentive points, the Ministry of Education and Training will no longer add points for vocational certificates for all candidates; and will no longer add points for IT certificates, foreign languages, and vocational secondary school certificates for candidates in the continuingeducation system.
This content is to be consistent with the 2018 General Education Program, and at the same time create equality because students graduating from formal and continuing education systems are all awarded the same type of graduation certificate.
