Increase income after attending vocational training class

Since 2021, vocational classes opened right in hamlets and villages have helped many ethnic minority and mountainous people in Thai Nguyen province to improve their skills or have new jobs with stable incomes, striving to have a better life.

In Ao Lac hamlet (Phu Luong commune), since the beginning of November 2025, nearly 30 students who are ethnic minority workers have participated in a basic food processing technique class organized by Phu Luong Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center.

Cooking is a familiar job for every citizen, but to become a profession that can bring income, it needs to be practiced and trained properly. In the class, people are taught new techniques and guided to practice each dish according to a methodical process; they are trained in calculating ingredients, measuring spices, and ensuring food hygiene and safety. This is an important foundation for developing local food services.

Mr. Vuong Van Quy, San Chay ethnic group (Ao Lac hamlet) shared that although he had opened a small restaurant for a long time, it was only after attending a vocational training class that he learned how to prepare dishes with the right techniques, save ingredients and suit the taste of diners.

Similarly, Ms. Ma Thi Tuyen (Cay Thi hamlet, Hop Thanh commune) is also one of the students of the vocational training class "raising and preventing and treating diseases for chickens". Ms. Tuyen shared: at the vocational training class, I learned a lot of useful knowledge in poultry farming. Thanks to the flexible application of knowledge learned from the vocational training class into practice, at the end of April 2024, my family sold a flock of 500 chickens and is preparing to raise the next batch of chickens.

According to Ms. Tuyen, the local government regularly pays attention to and grasps the vocational training needs of the people, especially poor and near-poor households, and coordinates to open short-term vocational training classes according to the motto "holding hands and showing work", thanks to which, she has gained more knowledge and skills and gradually escaped poverty.

In Dong Muon hamlet (Quang Son commune), the green tea and black tea processing class attracts many women of working age. Instead of just working according to traditional experience, women here are instructed on how to roast, knead, ferment and preserve tea according to scientific processes, combined with machines. Thanks to that, the tea products have beautiful colors, retain natural aroma and sell for higher prices.

According to Mr. Tran Dinh Tung, a teacher at Dong Hy Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center, learning systematically helps people change their production mindset and know how to increase the value of their products. About 40% of the course time is spent on practice using the "hands-on" method. Thanks to that, students have a firm grasp of skills and can work immediately after the course. After the course, up to 80% of students find new jobs or improve their old jobs, making a practical contribution to local economic development.

More than 60,900 ethnic minority workers receive vocational training

A report from the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province shows that in the period of 2021 - 2025, the whole province has provided vocational training for 60,926 ethnic minority workers.

The report of 80 communes and wards in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Thai Nguyen province also shows that up to now, the total number of ethnic minority workers is 452,302 people. The total number of ethnic minority workers trained in appropriate occupations is 262,603 people, accounting for 58.06% of the total number of ethnic minority workers. This is the foundation for shifting the labor structure, increasing the ability to escape poverty and access non-agricultural jobs.

The above results are thanks to Thai Nguyen province's continuous attention, focus, and active implementation of ethnic policies in the province, especially the implementation of Project 5 on Developing education and training to improve the quality of human resources under the National Target Program under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

In fact, after completing vocational training, many students have opened their own services at home, participated in local economic models and have more stable livelihoods. It can be affirmed that the effectiveness of vocational training lies not only in the number of classes, the number of students or the implemented models, but is most clearly demonstrated through the changes in life in the highlands. When having a profession and a job, many families have risen out of poverty and boldly participated in new economic models. This is an important foundation for Thai Nguyen to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas in the next period.
